Prompt: come over here and make me
I wasn't sure I'd be able to think of something for the prompt this week, but then I thought, "hey, I could use Alistair and Elissa for this one!"
I was half right, anyway. xD
Prompt: Come over here and make me
Characters: Alistair, Ty the Mabari, Elissa Cousland
He probably should have located both boots before putting on the first. Then he wouldn't be hobbling around camp with one bare foot, looking even more of a fool as he argued with the dog over his own property. The unrepentant scoundrel was gnawing at his left boot, and had the audacity to look up and watch him as he did so. When Alistair moved toward him, the beast growled.
"Hey now, you give that back!"
The dog stood up, sat his butt on the ground, dropped the boot between his front paws, and glared at Alistair, head high as if to say, "I dare you to come and make me."
"Oh no, I'm not falling for that."
The dog inhaled, opened its mouth and began panting. No… he was certain it was laughing at him.
"Lissa…" Alistair whined, with a mournful pout and knitted brow that would put even the cutest pup to shame. "Your mabari pilfered my boot." It had always worked on Sister Theohild, anyway.
The young woman spared him barely a glance, preoccupied with her breakfast… but not enough to realize it was dribbling down her chin. He grinned.
"Ty, give Alistair his boot."
The grin was smug as he turned back toward Ty. The dog closed its mouth and gave Elissa a whine of its own. It cocked its head and stared at Alistair as the young man moved forward with false confidence. This might go badly, but surely his armor would slow the dog long enough for Elissa to rescue him?
“You heard what she said. Don’t want to make her angry. We’ve all seen what happens when anyone does that.”
He edged forward, closing the distance. He swiped the boot– "Ha!" –and retreated to a nearby log. After his successful sally, he noticed Elissa had been looking in their direction, overseeing her dog's compliance after all. A smirk was fading from her lips.
The mabari sauntered to Elissa's side, then dropped to the ground with a dramatic huff. Were they supposed to believe bullying Grey Wardens and their boots was such an arduous task? Alistair didn't buy it for a moment. Elissa, however, curled her fingers affectionately into the hound's fur and massaged.
Not that he wanted her to run her fingers through his hair. Although, now that he thought about it… he supposed that wouldn't be so bad, really.
