I SWEAR i will start oblivion posting soon 🙏
“Mama?” little luxa poked her head out from her crib. “Mama?” Usually, when luxa made even the softest sound of discomfort, her mother and father were there, ready to help their only baby. Little Luxa didn't know it then, but it was probably because Judith had had so many miscarriages, and so when she had arrived, they were so ready for a child. But this time, there was nothing. No noise, nothing. But no, that wasn't right. Little Luxa paused. She heard it again. The distinct sound of a giggle. Little luxa shook her head, sending her little braids flying, and slowly cradled out of her crib, toddling towards the sound. She paused in the doorway and spotted her parents. They were standing very close together, a small flame illuminating them in the large living room, and she made to walk over, when she noticed how they were standing. Her fathers eyes were glued to her mothers, and they swayed to music only they could hear. Her father bent to whisper something in Judith's ear and the queen giggled again, her cheeks flushing as she pulled her husband impossibly closer, her hands wrapped around his neck, his hands on her hips and wrapped around her waist. Little Luxa frowned. They were staring at each other as though no one else in the world existed. Her father was looking at her mother with a look she recognized, it was one he gave her often. And she was staring back just the same. Suddenly he pulled away and spun her mother out, making her tilt her head back and laugh, before reeling her back in close to him. They stared at each other a moment, then her father bent his head low and kissed her mother. Judith sighed and wrapped her arms around his neck, molding against him. Little Luxa wanted to run into the room, cuddle up between them and stop whatever this was. But something held her back. Slowly she pulled away, waddled back to her crib, and fell asleep. It wasn't until she was much, much older, and met a certain boy that she realized how they had been looking at each other. The look of pure, raw love and adoration. It is one she comes to know very well.Â
-okay so every fanfic ive ever read about the royal couple that died before the books places them as an arranged/forced marriage and i have to disagree. i dont think arranged marriages are a thing in the underland, mainly because there is really only one royal family and so there are no princes or other things asking for luxa's hand. while howard reveals it is a long and tedious process, he never necessarily says that gregor cannot marry luxa, hes just being an overprotective brother and is saying that it wouldnt work as a cover story next time. i believe that judith and her husband had a sweet, tender love, and i truly believe that the reason luxas father died to rats is because he was flying to save Judith. the way people discuss them is never to say they dont love each other, and vikus almost seems fond when he mentions luxas dad. idk, i just wanted to writ something that was sweet and showed judith and her husband not being an arranged marriage, but one of love and care and respect
One thing I loved about Vikings that I think a lot of fans hated was how so many iconic characters came to such human ends.
Ragnar was almost a shell of the man he used to be by the time he died. Captured, tortured and thrown in a pit of snakes. Yet, a death that would be seen as pathetic by many doesn’t taint his legendary status even a little. In fact, dying when he did arguably solidified that status.
King Ecbert dies almost maddened by grief. Alone. His son, Aethelwulf, also King of Wessex, is killed by a bee sting. Yet neither are respected any less in death than they were in life.
Lagertha also dies past her prime. The greatest shieldmaiden who ever lived — dying from her injuries only for the fatal blow to be an accident. And again, this manner of death doesn’t take away from who she was.
That exploration of “what happens to the legends after the stories? after their prime?” is so fascinating to me. Obviously they don’t just fall off the face of the earth. They continue living.
It reminds me of what Bjorn said in season 4 about how people forget that Ragnar is “just a man”. None of these people were gods. They were human. Man. Not all men get the heroic or noble death. Some are allergic to bees and get stung. Others get cancer. Some die in a lost battle.
And I loved that shit.
