The Finished Piece: The Queen of Bee's
Final Fittings & Construction photos
After the corset was finished, I draped with a plain, slightly see through black chiffon a skirt on the mannequin: created a placket and waistband and then attached it to the waist-line of the corset.
Using the same spray paint as for the corset and the polystyrene pieces I sprayed the skirt gold but left the bottom of the skirt black so it evened out the depth that was created by the darkness in the yoke.
Construction of the crown: a very cheap was of making a crown is using wire from my Dad's shed… and weaving it to create the crown shape i needed. Spray painted gold, the crown looked metal and i attached spray painted ivy leaves.
The gloves were fish net from Claire's accessories with small gold pieces of material sewn on and then sprayed gold while stretched on a sleeve iron board! This created the feel of insects; bee's spreading across the Queen's arms.
Initial Design's for 'The Queen of Bee's.'
I normally start by doing some rough drawings and then coming up with a list of ways I can tackle a make like this. I decided to make it loosely Elizabethan with a short corset that's pointed at the front. I decided to create a yoke on the stand for a neck piece to give the character a more regal appearance as a Queen. The cloak I added for dramatic effect in the film, not an overly complicated piece to construct but I think it will make a lovely addiction to the dress as a piece.
