Reposted from @quotabelle - “The only thing better than singing is singing.” ~ Ella Fitzgerald . . A last minute bout of stage fright made Ella switch her act from dancing to singing at the Apollo Theater’s Amateur Night. It was a split-second decision that not only saw her take home the top prize that night but also launched her legendary sixty-year vocal career. Little known fact: she loved reading cookbooks just the way many love reading novels. So here’s to a weekend filled with singing and reading ~ whatever kinds of books you love to devour. . #BeautifullySaid by #ellafitzgerald #queenofjazz #firstladyofsong #singer #cookbooklover #gritandgrace #quotabelle - #regrann https://www.instagram.com/p/B1PN40ZFmi_/?igshid=14chqljmu1sn9
Lady Ella
Ella Fitzgerald (April 25, 1917 - June 15, 1996)
Today is the birthday of the Queen of Jazz, Ella Fitzgerald. In 1982, the University of Idaho was honored to have her perform at the University’s Jazz Festival. The night of her concert, there was a university basketball game, during her set she scat into one song that the Vandals had won the game. Her appearance at the University is one of pride for those who were fortunate enough to attend the concert and those who have heard about it.
In our collections, we are lucky enough to hold some of Ella Fitzgerald’s belongings. Currently, a turquoise dress and a wig worn by Ella are on display in Los Angeles at the Grammy Museum for their exhibit on Motown.

Regrann from @quotabelle - “Summertime, and the livin’ is easy.” . . Humming this line as we head into a summer weekend. Song made famous by Lady Ella. Composed by George Gershwin. Lyrics by DuBose Heyward, author of Porgy and Bess. Whole lot of greatness wrapped up in that. #BeautifullySaid by #ellafitzgerald #ladyella #firstladyofsong #queenofjazz #singer #quotabelle - #regrann
