After reading your thoughts on Great Comet, i want to know, what are your thoughts on Falsettos? As a pianist/ aspiring music director that score fascinates me! I think it's an example of a show that uses spicy chords and interesting dissonances really effectively to show character. (Ex: giving Whizzer the moving harmony lines in Act 1 because he doesn't fit in)

I usually answer non-anon questions privately but since this is part of a larger discussion im publishing it) 

I TOTALY AGREE! I think that they do use a lot more dissonance than the average audience is used to but its not distracting or painful. It does enhance the story. I also think they bring a lot of ties from Jewish music in which I appreciate. I wish they did it more especially during Jason’s bar mitzvah and in that orchestration but its still there and as a jew and a musician, I hear it. 

I havent listened to it in a hot sec so I don’t have any specific points that come to mind but my first thought is in Thrill of First Love  with the harmonies at the end. If i remember correctly, on the first “Passion dies” whizzer is a third above marvin and on the second marvin is on the same note whizzer was on during the first one but this time Whizzer has jumped up to be like a perfect or augmented 4th above marvin. I think thats a very interesting moment with their characterization but i bet there are much better examples. I just liked that harmony a lot 

I think a huge plus for that score over Natasha Pierre is that a lot of Falsettos’s harmonic interest and crunch is in the orchestra instead of the voices. It lends the emphasis and discomfort in a way that doesn’t feel ugly or gross.

What’s your favorite pair of shoes that you own? these Doc Martens that are white with red hearts got ’em with my first ever full time design job paycheck. i did not take care of them well so they’re super scuffed/beat-up and very much not Perfectly White ... but they’re still comfy as heck, i still love the design, and they’ve lasted 3 years so far, let’s see how much longer we can make it ... also i think they’re a limited edition so i likely won’t get my hands on any replacements...

Top three cuisines? my cheap-ass answer would be, like: East Asian, South-East Asian, Western European ... but my non-shit answer is... Japanese, Chinese, Italian (ftr i’m not a seafood fan ... i just love the ramen and non-seafood stuff that japan makes hehe)

How are you at climbing trees? not............ good. i mean, i like climbing, but i have absolutely terrible upper body strength. i did bouldering for a couple months but only stuck to the first like... three out of nine difficulty levels.
