Yao knew this day would eventually come.
He knew it once finding the royal seal on his body whenever he was young, he knew it once he got older and his mother explained everything to him. His father abandoning him and his mother, leaving nothing for them but sour memories of his betrayal. Yao was too young at the time to remember what exactly happened that day he had left, but for his mother, it was all too clear. His father had an affair, and, upon figuring out, his mother gave him the choice to choose her or the other. He eventually did choose the other, the younger, more beautiful one, leaving his family on the street to go live out a better life with his new wife as the Jack of Spades. Yao held a deep hatred for his father after this. And upon figuring out that he himself had the mark of royalty, he tried his best to ignore it. He did not care for the royals, he did not care at all. His father had left him to live that life, he wanted nothing to do with any of it.
However, after the tragic death of the Jack, the Royals did go searching for the one with the royal mark, and, the people Yao called "psychics", knew the appearance of the new Jack and drew it for everyone to see, so they searched. Searched for a few years, actually, while Yao only hid in the alleyways while they walked by, hid in the crowd to avoid being spotted. However, even after doing it for years, one eventually did spot him, none other than one of the highest royals themselves, the Queen of Spades.
Everyone was excited for the Queen's arrival into the city, he was supposed to be making an important speech in place of the King, who was off doing business in the Kingdom of Diamonds. Yao had heard about this from passerbys, in which he was going to do his best to avoid. Which would not be a problem, of course, considering he did not care for such trivial things.
Luckily, Yao and his mother had started a bakery on the Eastern part of the city years after his father's betrayal towards them, and it had become a somewhat popular one at that. Yao had read cookbooks at the Spade's Library, and with the help of pickpocketing working hard for money, they eventually bought this small place. And they were able to live at least a decent life again. His mother was actually very curious as to what the Queen was going to say, and Yao didn't stop her from going. Though he wouldn't admit it, he was somewhat curious himself, he would just ask his mother to inform him when she gets back.
So Yao was in charge of the place today, and he didn't mind; there were little to no people here, they were all at the Center. Most of the time he was never in charge, he was always cautious when it came to covering his identity, but he knew it wouldn't be a problem today due to the event. Though he was very wrong.
