DO NOT! plant a Cocos Palm (Syagrus romanzoffiana) also known as the queen palm. It’s native to Brazil and has been introduced throughout the world as a popular ornamental garden tree. It is an environmental weed in Queensland and New South Wales because it sets carpets of seedlings that outcompete native species. They can also injure or kill flying foxes in a variety of ways (which I didn’t know until I started researching) ranging from constipation to seeds getting stuck in young foxes mouths. These 3 trees are in the process of being removed. They were here when we arrived and have been a pest for the last 28 years. #CocosPalm #QueenPalm #SyagrusRomanzoffian #Brazil #foliage #abcmygarden #pest #EnvironmentalWeed (at Belmont, New South Wales, Australia) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cprg0QWPvGQ/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
