Solidarity with Cuba, trans people at Queens Pride
By Melinda Butterfield
Thousands of people gathered in the multinational immigrant neighborhood of Jackson Heights in Queens, New York, for the 25th Queens Pride Parade June 5.
Supporters of the Socialist Unity Party and Struggle-La Lucha marched with the NY-NJ Cuba Si Coalition contingent. The response from those lining the streets was overwhelmingly positive, with many chanting “Viva Cuba!” or running up to take photos with the coalition’s banner.
happy pride 💗💜💙

(According to a feature in Paper, this float was executed by and featured performers and patrons from the Boy Bar. The 1988 date was entered on the print by the photographer, though the recollection suggests it was 1989).
Pride weekend looks a lot different this year, but that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be celebrated! For some virtual entertainment, please explore some past blog posts:

Look for our Undetectable = Untransmittable float at the march! “Undetectable” means that the level of HIV in a person’s blood is so low that it doesn’t show up on a viral load test. If a person is undetectable, HIV cannot be passed on to others through sex.
My college paid me to design a tshirt for Queens Pride and here's the final result! I made the front design while my friend, Daniella, made the back!
I’m really lucky to have grown up here in Jackson Heights. We have a Pride parade and festival every year literally two blocks away from my house, and have for basically my entire life. It’s pretty fantastic, and has been wonderful growing up.
And I finally got a pansexual flag! I’ve had various rainbow flags over the years, but never a pan one! Until now!
My coworker got a pic of me today from the crowd
