Where were you?!?
She shouldn't have gone on that hunt alone--and she knew she should have told Claire. She was grateful that she had opened the door, and she stumbled in, feeling like she had about nine rounds in a boxing ring.
"Please don't yell."

In a universe where everyone is born with numbers on their wrists counting down to when they’ll meet their soulmate, send me 00:00:00 for my muses reaction to their numbers hitting zero when they meet yours.
Nick had been born with two timers. One on each wrist. Only one of them really started moving straight up front. The other one stayed at 99:99:99, unchanged until he turned 18 when it finally started to finally start working. Albeit, it worked rather slowly. He figured it must be defective. The second one had to have been a mistake. That happened sometimes. And that’s all he really took it as.
He’d never been against finding his soul-mate. Never been against finding that person that completed you in some way. And he’d found the first timer going to all zeroes when he met Sarah. He couldn’t have been happier to meet her and be with her. She was perfect.
So really he’d forgotten about the second one. Until Sarah was killed. That’s when he looked at it again. The numbers still ticking away. It’d gone down significantly since he’d checked it years earlier. It’s when he thought maybe he was meant to have a second perfect match with him. And he began to resent the mystery person.
Were they the reason Sarah’s fate ended like that? Was it because this second person was supposed to be in his life? Over the passing years, the numbers got closer to hitting zero, and Nick had started hating this person on principle. They hadn’t been involved in what had happened to her, but it was somehow their fault for it.
He was bitter.
And of course, of course the day the numbers got down to five minutes it was a bad day. He’d got up on the wrong side of the bed and he felt absolutely horrible. He was a bit sick from the cold weather, he was a little hungover. He’d gotten in another fight with his mom and he was stressed about that. And to top it all off, the people he dealt with at work this time around had been mostly idiots. It wasn’t fun. He was just in a fuckin’ horrible mood.
He didn’t care about the person he might meet. His plan was to maybe say hello and then go on with the day. He had no plans of meeting up with someone. He had no plans of staying with them for longer than a minute if all worked in his favor.

He was walking out to his car after work when someone ran into him. She’d slipped on ice, perhaps. On instinct he grabbed her to make sure she didn’t fall on the ground. Then it occurred to him this was probably the other person. So when it seemed she was upright and not gonna fall on her face he let go.
"I’m sorry. I wasn’t watching where I was…" he trailed off as he actually looked at her. She was very pretty, he had to admit. But also very young. He wasn’t sure how he felt about that. "…going. Well I’ve gotta…" he pointed in the general direction of his car, "I’m gonna go. Sorry." Hopefully she wouldn’t say anything. Wouldn’t be the type to notice or care about the numbers on her wrist. He wouldn’t be able to ignore it if she was. He’d need to say something to her. And he really didn’t want her to have to deal with his bitter issues on the matter.
“How much would a stripper cost and why so much?”
