It's all thanks to advertising by DeBeers. But about diamonds vs CZ - CZ tends to yellow over time, so unless the person wants to replace their stone/ring every few years I always advise going for a different stone, like moissanite, over CZ.

TBH, I have a couple CZ rings and they are absolutely fine. They didn’t turn yellow, they have no scratches, etc... And if you have to replace them... they are so cheap that it doesn’t really matters
