I find it so very interesting how season 4 Dean, despite being an atheist/non-spiritual, adopted and enforced an evangelical Christian ideology; whereas Sam, who purportedly prays every day, completely disavowed that same ideology because of how deeply it clashed with his moral code.
The first is, from my perspective, reminiscient of how people can be taken in by cult-like practices for the promise of safety and an idealized normality (preserving the status quo). This can be seen replicated in many culturally Christian areas, even among atheists like Dean.
The second is representative of disillusionment: not all is what it seems when the status quo only protects the devout, regardless of their actions, beliefs, or goodness. Sam’s faith is in a greater good, and this spectacle of Heaven is neither great nor good. His faith is based upon unconditional love.
sometimes I’ll be doing homework, reading, cooking or really just doing anything and I’ll suddenly remember Cas is canonically queer and in love with Dean, and I’ll just burst out smiling. My family thinks I’ve gone crazy. which i totally have

Maybe unpopular take: Everyone is slamming Castiel into the 'gay' label and showering him with gay stuff but its actually canon that he's completely indifferent to the form of his partner. He loves Dean Winchester, but he'd also still be in love if it was 'Deanna' Winchester. I know Misha said Cas would have rainbow wings and that's cute and all, but shoving Cas into the pure label of gay is erasing part of his identity when he's already established he likes more than one species/sex/gender.
Ahh yes i totally get where you're coming from! And I do share your view point! I was always part of gang 'gender indifferent cosmic wave length'!cas and thus 'reducing' cas to the label 'gay' doesn't cover the whole thing/ him as a being (but on the other side: who is? No one is their preference in genders or their gender or anything other singular, we all know that). Cas loves Dean, that's the main point. And yes as in Dean as a being and not the vessel he's happened to have, 100% with you on that.
(I personally am convinced real love stems from being in love with a human being and not body features, but that's off-topic.)
But —as I am sure that you, dear anon, are perfectly well aware of, too — this was a shout-out to GA and a sign addressing the public in terms of representation. And on that note acknowledging our read on the (sub)text. Of course we as trained viewers should consider using other terms for cas, as we do have a closer look on everything.
Concerning Misha's opinion on Cas's wings: 🌈 covers much more that just being gay, it was his choice for stand-in for the whole lgbtq+ range I'd assume, and he said it supportingly and lovingly, so... Let's see this in a positive context :)
Castiel: I love you
Dean: It’ll pass.
A letter for you
Summary:
Dean has gone quiet, isolating himself while writing away. Cas noticed, and it’s left him confused and curious.
