Cover Reveals For Our Next Two Anthologies!

Wondering what we’ve been working on? Wonder no longer! We’ll be back with our next crowdfunding campaign on March 30th to launch these two short story collections!!

Ducks in a Row and Duxxx in a Row feature short stories we’ve previously published only on our website or Patreon, all from the first three years we were in operation. All the stories in Ducks in a Row are from our general imprint – 22 of them, to be exact – and all the stories from Duxxx in a Row are in our explicit imprint – 19 spicy tales for you.

During our upcoming Kickstarter campaign, you’ll be able to buy one or both, and a small selection of related merchandise featuring the gorgeous cover art by artist and graphic designer Pallas Perilous and a new dux by Alessa Riel – including our first-ever dux enamel pin.

Bi All Accounts is not a collection; it's a declaration. A chorus of bi+ voices refusing to shrink, contort, or explain themselves to fit someone else's story. Inside, you'll find essays, fiction, poetry, and art that cut to the bone and stitch you back up again. Stories about first crushes and chosen family, about erasure and euphoria, about fighting to be seen in a world that still asks if we exist.

This is not the tired "bi for now" narrative. This is bi+ forever, bi+ with nuance, bi+ with teeth. These are writers and artists who have lived through invisibility and still choose to speak. To sing. To shout.

Back on Earth, two aromantics bond over their shared love of pop culture. A trans woman finds herself between a rock and a hard place when someone from her past threatens to destroy her future. Space Boy remembers what it's like to be in love with another boy, and two women have more in common than they think as they fall in love while cosplaying their favourite TV show. Queer men frolic at a gay beach balanced on sands of time. A bisexual, a widow, and a murderer walk into a bar--just wait for it, there's a punchline. An enby down on their luck gets an offer from a goddess too good to refuse. In 1930s London, split ends are queerly healed. A queer college student seeks to rekindle a dying friendship during a trip to Paris. A trans teacher takes a stand against bigotry and finds love in the process. Love is found amongst giddiness, hard edges, and a darkly passionate theater. An ace vows to finally come out to her sister, and back in space, an arranged marriage connects two queer men. A woman discovers opening a queer bookshop isn’t all rainbows and sunshine. Adrift with her infantry company in one war, a trans warrior must face the ghosts of another. And on their first day back at work, someone can be the person we wish we'd met as a kid. Join us in these queer stories of hope, resilience, and perseverance.

Carnation Books Sherlock Holmes Anthology 2019

!!Submissions close on May 1, 2019!!

Carnation Books is seeking submissions of Sherlock Holmes pastiche shorts for an anthology of queer interpretations of the ACD canon. These stories can:

Take place in any time period

Contain erotica.

Be any genre (Sherlock Holmes in space! Sherlock Holmes from a different part of the world! Sherlock Holmes the magical creature! Sherlock Holmes in a rock band!)

Be any pairing as long as it’s queer! Want to focus on Detective Inspector Lestrade? Mycroft Holmes? Mary Morstan? Cool. We want to read that.

Feature ace characters.

Feature trans characters.

Be unscrubbed fanfiction (see below for more on this). 

These stories cannot:

Contain elements exclusive to BBC Sherlock canon which cannot be removed in the scrubbing process. BBC Sherlock fanfiction is welcome, but stories that are deeply rooted in BBC Sherlock canon (for example, heavy use of dialogue or plot points lifted directly from the show) will not be accepted. Keep in mind that ACD Sherlock Holmes is in the public domain, and BBC Sherlock is not.

Be longer than 10k words.

Contain major character death or very unhappy endings. We have a happy endings only policy. In the case of this anthology, ambiguous endings are fine.

As always, Carnation Books welcomes and encourages diversity! We very much want to see stories that contain characters of color, as well as many gender and sexual identities. Beyond our requirement that stories focus on queer characters, we do not wish to focus on only one type of character or relationship. Bring us YOUR perspective on these timeless stories!

We will accept submissions for this project until May 1, 2019!
