On the Rag: A Guide to Menstruation
Want another example of how we’ve been providing gender inclusive Queer Care and Queer Sex Ed For All over the last 25 years? Take a peek at founder Heather Corinna’s in-depth, gender-neutral guide to menstruation.
“Some people get periods. Others don’t. If a person never had a vagina and a uterus, or did once, but doesn’t anymore (due to hysterectomy), they are not going to be having periods. If someone does have those body parts, and they’re operating in pretty typical ways, they’re usually going to be experiencing periods, and usually for around thirty to forty years, sparing breaks like with any pregnancies, times they don’t have them due to contraception, commonly skipped periods during later perimenopause or other non-period times of life. But some people with a uterus still don’t have periods, don’t always have them, or once did and don’t anymore, whether that’s due to certain medications, surgeries or health conditions, age (like before puberty and after menopause), or the use of certain methods of birth control that either suppress or limit periods on their own, or can be used in that way intentionally. Some people who have periods are women, but not all: some people who have periods are transgender men, or people who identify their gender in some other way that isn’t "woman.”
