Pansexual Yang is my favourite headcannon in the whole Rwby fandom.

genderfluid nora telling ren quietly that some days she doesn't feel so much like a she and comes up with a codeword for days she'd rather be a he and on those days ren very calmly and easily uses male pronouns for him

nora telling pyrrha one day and pyrrha laughing in relief and asking to be referred to as ve/ver because ve never felt like ve belonged in the gender binary

ren sitting down with jaune and explaining gender and pronouns and answering all of his questions patiently and at the same time mentions that by the way she'd really rather be lia ren than lie ren and jaune is incredibly confused but he can tell that this is important to his friends so he makes an honest effort and sometimes he trips over pronouns and misses nora's codeword and forgets that now ren is a she and pyrrha isn't but he's trying and his team is proud of him

for the first one ren always knew he wasn't a girl even though everyone said he was and one day he told nora and she told him that she didn't always feel like a girl either even though she did most days and some days she'd dress in jeans instead of skirts and those are the days ren treated him like a boy but those days were once every other month

he was scared to tell nora that it wasn't just sometimes that he didn't feel like a girl should, it was always, but when he finally stammered out that he didn't want her to call him lia anymore, call him lie, call him ren, she gaped at him and asked how long he'd been wanting her to do that and then hugged him so hard he couldn't answer and she never, never called him a "she" again

and like whether ren transitioned before or during beacon nora would absolutely beat up anyone who gave ren any shit (cough cardin winchester cough) and glynda would be appalled but ozpin would keep finding ways to avoid punishing her because really, the girl's just protecting her friends

and as for ren transitioning at beacon when she finally feels comfortable enough to tell pyrrha and jaune about it jaune doesn't quite understand so pyrrha and nora help explain exactly what it means and they stop him from saying problematic things and explain why it's problematic for his initial reaction to be "aw man that means i'm the only guy on the team!" because nothing about ren has changed, she's just being honest with them

and when she finally tells team rwby they all promise to act as her bodyguards if the rest of jnpr isn't around to help her out and they all have their different ways but if ren has to pick someone to be with her she'd pick weiss, because for all of the posturing weiss once attacked someone with myrtenaster for shouting slurs at ren in the middle of the street and demanded an apology, and when ren insisted that the guy didn't need to, he was just being a dick, weiss looked her straight in the eyes and told her that she did not deserve to take any kind of horrible treatment from anyone, especially not strangers on the street too stupid to avoid an attack, weiss told ren that she was worthy of being treated like a human and nora's the only one who's ever told her that before
