🗳️ #ChooseYourAlberta #ABVote . (*edited repost from Facebook) I take pretty pictures. I enjoy going out for my walks with my cellphone 📷 looking for beautiful things that I can share. But not everything I see out on my walks is beautiful. Earlier this week, on my to the hill where I know crocuses — first flowers of spring — grow, I came across a man putting up "stop Notley" signs sponsored by Rebel Media. Rebel Media is a far-right "news" outlet know for its anti-Muslim, anti-Semitic stance & its sympathetic coverage of organized hate groups. . But what made this encounter memorable was how the man stood & stared at me as I walked by. It's hard to know if his stare was because he knew he was doing something controversially semi-legal (those signs are promoting a book). But it could have also been my brown skin & that people sometimes tell me that I look Middle-Eastern? Regardless, the stare was uncomfortable ... as is the hateful, anti-immigrant rhetoric Rebel Media is known for. Hate crimes & extremists are becoming more common. I am worried that this is becoming the new normal. . I can't help but wonder if the changes I'm watching in the world will one day mean that it will no longer be safe to walk in my own neighborhood on my own? Will I be able to trust elected officials to represent my best interests? . Alberta is at a crossroads. It's up to us to choose a government that represents our values & is committed to protecting the rights/freedoms of ALL Albertans. . 🏳️🌈 #QueerkidsAB who are not old enough to vote are hoping that we will do the right thing on their behalf. Everyone has a right to feel safe. . I am currently unemployed (victim of economic 📉) but I also recognize that there are things more important than jobs/economy 💰. . Like people. Integrity. Our reputation. 🌎 . I believe @premierrachelnotley is exactly the leader we need. That is why #ImWithRachel 🧡 & voting for the @albertandp. . I truly believe #albertandp have shown much needed leadership when it comes to #climatechange, #bill6, #bill24, education, health care, mental health, human rights etc. — & that we're #BetterOffWithRachel. . 🗳 Every vote counts ... . #FightingForYou https://www.instagram.com/p/BwMj0LOBImi/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=16lvqto0xu3vb
