I just shared the complete essay from my keynote (not identical) "Queer Enough: Imposter Syndrome and Gatekeeping In Sexuality and Identity Communities" from the Unabashed Queer Kink Con @unabashedcon . I am sharing it with my Patreon supporters first at http://www.Patreon.com/PassionAndSoul - but here is an excerpt from the 5 page essay by Lee Harrington: ***This is queer culture, and the visibility of queerness permeates it as a way for folks to know if they “belong.” It is nose rings and undercuts, bears and butches, dandies and queens. It is Judy Garland, Billie Porter, KD Lang, Diana Ross, and Janelle Monae. It is pride flags and rainbow capitalism. It is eating our own online. But in these examples I have been shown, it is hard not to note who is seen or unseen, who gets press time or asked to leave the stage. Indigenous and refugee voices are rarely seen, incarcerated queer folks only seen when doing fundraisers, and elder voices only present when they are musicians or movie stars. Those who can be read as not-queer are also left out of the dialogue. This leads to bi-erasure, femme erasure, and the erasure of individuals who are in relationships that get read as straight. Told they are not queer enough to be in these spaces, looked at askance when they walk in, or not believed when they say they are queer. This labeling of some of us are queer enough or not is toxic and destructive. “Am I enough” becomes wedged into our bodies, embodied imposter syndrome as we shove ourselves into outfits, styles of movement, or relationship shapes that might not serve our authentic selves out of a desire to fit in. We leave hetnormative boxes as if we were rebels, only to work to fit into this queernormative box which can have just as many unspoken norms.*** To read the rest of the essay, check it out over on Patreon at any membership level. #Queer #QueerCulture #QueerKink #QueerEnough #LGBTQ #2SLGBTQ #QueerPolitics #YouAreEnough https://www.instagram.com/p/CZSljd1uRkH/?utm_medium=tumblr
Weekend reflections: - Facial hair is a core piece of where I see myself in the mirror. Being without it can trip my dysphoria and cutting it off is a hard limit. - There is such power in the word “Us” and I am grateful to Athena Kali in her 24/7 power exchange relationship class for the reminder. - My lungs are not in good shape. Luckily, I know how to look cute in an open-chest sparkle catsuit, and I have wonderful people in my life who understand when I need to back out of the clown-bang. - There is such power in being around other gender adventurers, including adopting them into circles of sometimes jaded creatures. - I love crazy artists and beautiful monsters. - Sleep. My body is still needing to sleep 12+ hours a day, and instead of being mad, just be. - Love. I love. My relationships with people flow, but the love is still there (thank you Kero and Amy) - My pleasure continues to heal my ancestors, and in turn let me become a good ancestor for those who come after me… and those whose lives and loves I touch. - I am blessed. Thank you Unabashed Queer Kink Con, the producers, volunteers, ritualists, adventurers, presenters, vendors, and collaborators on this adventure. It has been an honor to dance with y’all. @unabashedcon #UnabashedCon #QueerKink #KinkConference #QueerMagic #StudioFriction https://www.instagram.com/p/Cj1LK9oOPid/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
Running late today for @UnabashedCon Unabashed Queer Kink Con after 12+ hours of sleep, slow cognitive day. It’s sad at conferences to miss programming I was excited about, but body is what it is. Looking forward to clown play tonight if my body allows, fingers crossed, and more quality time with friends old and new. Last night’s opening ritual by @ladyspeechsankofa__ LadySpeech Sankofa was exactly the earth-shake my spirit needed - our pleasure can be an activist action that heals our ancestors and descendants alike. Followed by Mxtress Rowan’s keynote speaking on how cis sexism has cis people and trans alike, and how we can learn from BIPoC diverse genders throughout history and today (plus me nodding emphatically with dysphoria that can come from the medical transition we actively sought)… what a first day. #UnabashedCon #PassionAndSoul #SpoonieLife #BodyAdventures #QueerKink #LadySpeechSankofa https://www.instagram.com/p/CjvvhJ2OHd4/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
Packing for Thunder In The Mountains this weekend, these beautiful heels are definitely in order. Now to figure out what to coordinate with them, though nothing but a jock strap is tempting. #LivingLeather #QueerKink #KinkCommunity #GenderQueer #SparkleHeels https://www.instagram.com/p/CRXms1VB033/?utm_medium=tumblr
