A wise woman once told me

“If you care enough about someone, you’ll always see them again”

I believed you

But that was the last time I saw you

I care enough

Do you?

I miss you.

But I will still laugh instead of cry when I think of summer

Accumulate smile lines instead of frown lines when I remember the vast expanse of the Long Island Sound

I will giggle instead of sob like I did that night when I feel again the power I felt steering, you by my side

And hope you care enough.

“American Pie”

My last memories of her

My last memories of real summer

I sit playing American Pie off my phone this time

A song I’ve been too scared to listen to

For three months

Because I thought I might cry

Instead I smiled

I missed you but smiled

I thought about that amazing amazing summer

And that dance

And when the song came to a close

I pulled off the bracelet

I had made for you

But forgotten that night

And worn since that day

But it’s now winter and a new chapter

I pulled off the bracelet

And whispered

“Goodbye”

And reminisced

About the day

The music died
