"Warsaw is also a city with a queer history and a queer identity," says the deputy mayor.
Poland’s first queer museum – documenting the history of the LGBT+ community – will open later this year in Warsaw with the backing of the municipal authorities. “In the autumn, Warsaw will be enriched with the QueerMuzeum – a grassroots, open space for meetings with the history of the LGBTQ+ community,” wrote city hall on Friday, announcing the project. It says that the institution, which will be located in municipally owned premises on Marszałkowska Street at the heart of the city, will be only the third of its kind in Europe and the fifth in the world. “This museum is very important for Warsaw because it tells the story of Warsaw’s identity,” said deputy mayor Aldona Machnowska-Góra at the announcement, quoted by the Gazeta Wyborcza daily. “Warsaw is also a city with a queer history and a queer identity.”

Alright, I’m procrastinating writing some academic articles, but I’ve decided to go back to revisiting my amazing adventures in London over the summer last year.
On one of my afternoon excursions I hung out with my friend Meghan for the afternoon. Meghan and I know each other through co-authoring academic stuff but it was very welcome to have an afternoon with a friend after spending so much time alone!
First we went to the vegan restaurant Genesis. The place was really fun and food was out of this world, alas I totally failed to take pictures of any of the things I tried. (Fortunately, I went back again later and took photos, so stay tuned.)
A then together we visited the White Chapel Gallery to see the Queer Spaces: London, 1980s-Today. A description of the exhibit:
This display focuses on the rarely seen archives of LGBTQ+ venues and social networks collated by University College London’s Urban Laboratory, who also contribute an interactive map charting the appearance and disappearance of spaces over the last 30 years.
Among the featured case studies are the London Lesbian and Gay Centre and Black Lesbian and Gay Centre, both running in the 1980s and ‘90s; Glass Bar (1995–2008), a space in Euston for anyone identifying as a woman; and venues such as The Joiners Arms, The Black Cap and The Royal Vauxhall Tavern that are the subject of current campaigns against redevelopment. Together, they reveal the radical inventiveness and creativity of London’s LGBTQ+ communities since the 1980s.
