Australia! And China for the first 3.5yrs of my life but I literally remember 0% of it so.

YOI, Captive Prince, DBSK, KAT-TUN (my vintage...fangirl days...... T____T). You can pinpoint my favourites if I write fic for them tbh. 

3. what language(s) can you speak


English, Mandarin, Japanese and a bit of Korean I taught myself through sheer overexposure to K-pop and Kdramas and those ‘LEARN TO READ/WRITE KOREAN’ guides (srsly Korean writing is a godsend after learning Chinese wtf). 

I wish I could say French and Italian bc I did learn them for 1 and 2yrs respectively in late primary school but I only remember a handful of phrases and how to count to 10 in them so. Sigh. 

4. your favourite film of 2016


ohhh man, I am mainstream AF and am legitimately checking ‘movies that came out in 2016′ because my memory is so shot (fun fact: 2101 movies came out in 2016 and I don’t even know if they included non-Western ones). The ones that come to mind are: Zootopia, Rogue One, Civil War. YEAH.

put a fanfic trope in my inbox

five times viktor nikiforov tried to ask katsuki yuuri out

1. WILL YOU GO TO PROM WITH ME, the card reads. There are little hearts doodled around the margins of the rose-gold embossed paper. A thin silver ribbon forms the border framing Viktor’s hand-lettered invitation in sweet cursive and jet-black ink. The paper is lightly scented with a tasteful spritz of his mother’s Chanel No. 5. Mila talked Viktor out of his original plan, which involved the football team, cheerleading squad and marching band all forming the words of Viktor’s proposal on the field at their next match. In retrospect, Viktor agrees with her. That might have been a little over the top.

Viktor hopes this isn’t too subtle for Yuuri.

‘Oh,’ Yuuri says. His cheeks are dusty pink, and the flush is only deepening. He clutches the card in his lovely hands, wrinkling the (very expensive, perfumed, tissue-fine) paper slightly. His palms are sweaty. Viktor wants to give Yuuri his letterman jacket. Viktor does not own a letterman jacket. ‘Do you, uh…’ Yuuri blinks his beautiful long eyelashes and bites his beautiful bottom lip. His big brown eyes are beginning to softly fill with tears. ‘Who do you need me to pass this to?’

2. Viktor taps Yuuri on the shoulder in statistics class.

If you say it to his face, goes the logic, there’s no way he won’t interpret your expression of undying affection as being meant for him.

However, Viktor is struck dumb by the sight of Yuuri’s gorgeous face, and his carefully prepared Do you want to go on a date with me? becomes ‘Do you have date? I mean, do you… do you. Date? Um. Do you have the date?’

‘It’s October 3rd,’ Yuuri replies, and immediately turns around again and buries his face in his textbook.

3. ‘I’m really gay,’ whispers Viktor involuntarily when he walks into the locker room to find Yuuri bent over a bench and lacing up his shoes, those tight gym shorts riding up a little bit.

Yuuri looks down at his shoes, the set of his mouth despondent. He pulls the hem of his gym shirt lower to hide his round belly. 

‘That’s nice, Viktor.’

4. ‘I would literally die for you, Yuuri,’ Viktor says as they sit on the bleachers together. They are holding hands. Yuuri is wearing Viktor’s scarf. Viktor brought roses.

‘Please don’t,’ Yuuri says. ‘I like you alive.’

5. Viktor hopes Yuuri comes to the window soon, because Viktor is running out of pebbles. He’d have to go further down the road to find more, and it’s very dark and Viktor might get hit by a car. Viktor doesn’t want to die without ever having kissed Katsuki Yuuri, a travesty of missed opportunities, a tragic footnote left to gather dust in desk drawers for all eternity.

‘It’s two in the fucking morning,’ says Yuuri.

‘Yuuri, please,’ yells Viktor. ‘Please let me be your boyfriend, Yuuri. I’ll do my best. I’ve tried everything. I did everything the way they do it in movies—’

‘I, I don’t. I don’t really watch a lot of movies?’ says Yuuri. He looks down at Viktor standing underneath his bedroom window, seeming dazed. Then he scratches the back of his head. He gazes at a spot somewhere on the windowsill for a long moment, his eyelashes low and fluttering on his cheeks. ‘Do you want to come up?’

This is not the Russian way, thinks Viktor as he shoves his hands in his coat pockets and marches over to the front door.

1. with a boy like that it’s serious

‘I’m dating Viktor,’ Yuuri says, nervous despite himself.

‘Seriously?’ Yurio demands. ‘I thought the two of you were already married.’

this is one of the fics written during the early episodes that i like to look back on and laugh about, because then episode 7 happened and god. we did not know. we did not Know what was coming

2. the pathway like the back of my hand

He goes in through the inn’s restaurant, nodding at the regulars crowded round the TV. Makkachin knows by heart the sound of Viktor’s key turning in the lock. He barely has time to open the door all the way before he’s greeted by an armful of poodle, pawing excitedly at his thighs.

‘Good day, Vicchan?’ Toshiya asks as Viktor hangs his coat up beside the door.

Viktor says: ‘Yes, very good.’

alternate ending where viktor retires, which isn’t really an alternate ending because i wrote it between episodes 11 and 12 and was SO SURE he wasn’t going to come back to skating, lmao. i like this bc i enjoy writing skater groupchats, and also this is part of a series and the ending to that series of fics, and i feel like it is a Good Ending. it was satisfying for me

3. begin to be half of what you think of me

‘You know we’re getting married regardless of whether I win a gold medal, right?’

‘Please.’ Viktor’s tongue darts out to wet his bottom lip. His eyes are dark, his voice dense with scorn. He’s very pretty when he cries. ‘Obviously you’ll win your gold medal. Trust me, I’m Viktor Nikiforov.’

so that previous one was the last in a fic series about viktor and this is the last fic in another series about yuuri, which makes me v happy as it soothes the need to be Tidy & Balanced. it’s post-season 1 in st. petersburg and heavily features team russia

4. stay awake with me awhile

It’s not a cure. It’s like — a thread pulling taut, that’s all. It feels a little less empty. That’s all.

bpd viktor fic. people tell me in the comments this made them emotional and that they related to it hard, which means a lot to me. also deliberately in non-chronological order, which could have gone so wrong, but thankfully it apparently didn’t

5. shaking the expression, making it mine

Phichit cups his hand over the phone and whispers: ‘Can you do the speech?’

And then Viktor inhales, and clears his throat and goes, ‘I love you, my honey, my darling, my sunshine child,’ and goes on to list all the wonderful things Phichit’s done in the past nine years until Phichit feels a lot better, like he’s charming and good and likeable.

And by Friday he’s fine.

university au where phichit & viktor are best friends. this was so fun!!!! so fun. i would not do a fic exchange or challenge like this again, bc the deadline got a little tight, but i'm happy with what came out of it

2. Where is your favorite place to write?

i can’t do anything in public bc it feels so exposed. i envy people who can write in cafés or libraries etc. mostly i stay in my living room or bedroom and it’s nice to write in bed

4. Do you have any writing habits/rituals?

i can’t do anything without music. i’m pretty happy with the general yoi playlist i’ve got rn on spotify and a few specific ones on 8tracks, but pls send me songs that remind you of yoi i’m hungry for new music recs

8. Do you have any writing buddies or critique partners?

no, the first time i ever had a beta was for katsudonbang (when having a beta was mandatory) and the thought was mildly terrifying but it worked out ok!

14. What does it take for you to be ready to write a book? (i.e. do you research? outline? make a playlist or pinterest board? wing it?)

playlist!! playlists. my earphones are probably the most precious item i have. if i forget and leave the house without them i’m Incomplete for the rest of the day

19. How do you cope with writer’s block?

i yell a lot, then i procrastinate. this is why the last two things i did (for yoi white day exchange and the minibang) were things with deadlines on them so i could force myself to write

34. Unpopular writing thoughts/opinions?

i don’t care how funny or technically well-written a fic is if i feel it’s ooc. i have read a lot of fics that were GOOD but i didn’t agree with their characterisation so i hit the back button

38. How do you nail voice in your books?

flattered that you think i can do this! hmm. i think i get a better understanding of characters by comparing them to each other. my experience is very limited - i’ve only done viktor, yuuri and phichit so far, and out of the three i think phichit is the most reliable as a third-person narrator, and yuuri is ofc the most unreliable. viktor’s more objectively Right than yuuri, and less snarky. viktor DOES things out of spite but he doesn’t think in sass, imo. yuuri meanwhile is very tired and tiring and climbing all over himself and running internal circles of self-deprecation. he is kind of wryly aware that his self-esteem is unhealthily low, yet not self-aware enough to see the truth of how things are. and when he pumps himself up (little motivational speeches in his head, etc) he’s SUPER DRAMATIC ABOUT IT. yuuri’s Important Lines, for me, tend to be stand-alones (after and before paragraph breaks) for maximum impact, or he swings to the other extreme and hides his big realisations at the ends of bigger paragraphs as if he’s afraid they’ll be stolen from him. there is a lot of sentence length variation for yuuri. viktor thinks in longer, more uniform paragraphs of action flowing into action into speech into thought

obviously these are all just my opinions and they come off the top of my head, i haven’t actively sat down and thought about this much

40. Do you look up to any of your writer buddies?

yes!!! i always appreciate you for your characterisation thoughts which are super valuable, and @kixboxer for her dryly funny pacing and way with words (i’m still hung up on ‘yuuri loses his last fuck’), and @queerryouta‘s v deadpan humour - like, the characters aren’t sarcastic, but the story is. @fireblazie has this distinctively cute style that makes me smile bc i can instantly recognise it, and @lazulisong has such lush turns of phrase

46. Past or present tense?

i’m not sure i can even write in past tense. the last time i tried was for that tiny tumblr kidfic prompt which turned into a harry potter epilogue parody, solely because i wanted to use the line ‘viktor’s receding hairline had not pained him for nineteen years. all was well’

47. Single or dual/multi POV?

i think pov switching needs to serve a purpose, like showing the gaps in each character’s narration so they fill in for/disprove one another and we as readers kind of laugh at them from the audience seats. multiple pov fics are a little more ambitious than single pov ones

15. How do you deal with self-doubt when writing?

i read old nice comments in my ao3 inbox mostly. it gives me Affirmation

20. Any advice for young writers/advice you wish someone would have given you early on?

your kudos/hits/whatever numbers aren’t solely a reflection of your skill level; a large part of that is determined by what the fic is tagged as. rarepairs get less attention, some tags turn people off, some fandoms are more active (and nicer about leaving feedback for writers) than others. it’s ok

21. What aspect of your writing are you most proud of?

i like the rhythm/pacing of it? i put a lot of care into varying line/paragraph length and thinking about sentence structure, and i think that shows sometimes
