working on a new novel (i.e ignoring the first one, on which I am stuck)

it's about genderless humanoid aliens going to art school in Milwaukee! 

It’s been thirty three years since Earth first encountered refugees from another planet. It was like something out of a Gene Roddenberry tribute piece- the Tolar coming from a war-torn home to settle in alongside the human race as if it was first nature.

                When they first arrived, it threw humanity into a panic. Governments shut down, religions and cults collapsed, and people felt scared. Not of the new, nearly-human people that came from the stars, but of what their existence signified. There were others. And we finally knew- we were not alone. What did this mean? Were we no longer special in the universe? What about our way of life? Our technology? Our Gods? So many houses of thought were rendered obsolete as soon as the first Tolar solar-vessel touched down in Saudi-Arabia.

                But three decades and three years later, the fellow citizens of earth became as easily acceptable as pigeons or electricity. They were normal; they were commonplace. Your friends, your coworkers, your neighbors were Tolar. But no matter how much, or how quickly humans can change, there will always be the select few who do not, and will never understand.
