Johan and Peewit meeting more Dark Souls Characters like Quelaan and Quelaag...
(I know this looks Bad because this is my First Time drawing the Crab Spider Ladies...)
fair lady
I think about the Daughters of Chaos from Dark Souls 1 on a nearly daily basis.
It really bothered me that we only ever encounter 5 of the 8 siblings and 3 of them are almost completely ignored in game.
So I did a boatload of lore research to fill in the gaps to the best of my abilities. Plus I deactivated some NPC’s helmets to get a better look at the 3D models to figure out their appearances under their hoods.
Here is what I got:
Mother Quela of Izalith:
Her name is never stated in game but “Quela” translates to ‘witch’ and it fits the ‘Q’ naming trope most of her family uses.
Grana the Eldest:
The pyromancer you fight outside the bed of chaos is named ‘Grana the Eldest’ in the japanese files. Plus she drops the ‘fire whip’ spell upon death. ‘Grana’ means ‘dear’ or ‘beloved’ so I theorized that she was Quela’s favorite and kept the other siblings in line. She appears to be mostly uncorrupted but is still loyal to her mother. I can’t find a good reason for her being uncorrupted, was she just that strong? or did she leave with Quelana and avoid the influence of the chaos flame, only to return after Izalith fell?
Quelana The Shade:
While Quelana doesn’t say much about her past, she does allude to the fact that she either left her family or was exiled. I like to think her Mother disowned her after Quelana tried to help her baby brother find a cure for his curse against her mother’s wishes. Hence her being a ‘protective big sister’ She is uncorrupted SPECIFICALLY because she left Izalith before the chaos flame broke free.
Quelaag the Flame:
Looking at cut dialogue and what Quelaan says about her sister, we can assume Quelaag was a bit more protective to the siblings Quela abused, but her corruptive form implies she went along with her Mother’s demonic plan. She loves her siblings but couldn’t bring herself to betray her Mother, at least not until it was too late.
Quartilla & Quinta:
I think Quela started to care about her kids less and less as time went on. During the fight with the Bed of Chaos, there are two orbs with Izalith Catalysts, like the two smaller witches by her side in the opening cutscene. My theory, two twins that she saw as tools to use in her evil magic. Hence them being the most corrupted and having the least personally identities. I looked at the 3D models of the Bed of Chaos and the Chaos bug to get the corruption look correct.
Quelaan The Fair:
Due to her dialogue, Quelaan came across as one of the younger siblings. She had a corruption similar to Quelaag, maybe implying they got corrupted together? Her sickness is self inflicted as she tried to help the corrupted citizens of Izalith, taking in their poison willingly to ease their suffering. We know the most about her since she is one of two Chaos siblings you can actually talk to.
Godelif The Scribe
The sibling I had to do the most speculation on. The only info we have on her is that she died, and her brother, the Ceaseless Discharge protects her corpse. My theory, she is the one that made him his Orange Charred Ring to establish the bond between them. In the opening cutscene, I noticed on witch was much smaller than the others. Being more meek, and having the ability to make magical items, I pictured her as more of a researcher than a warrior. Hence the name ‘Godelif’ an altered version of “Grana.” It also means ‘Dear’ but denotes organization and intellect. I think Quela is the sort of person who would break her ‘que’ naming convention for her first and last daughter.
Quillan, The Ceaseless Discharge:
Since he doesn’t appear in the opening cutscene, and item descriptions imply that the witch considered him a ‘mistake’ I pictured him as a big sad lump ignored and disowned by his own mother. If you look at his 3D model you DO see a broad shouldered dude with sad eyes and insect-like corruption coming out of his right side. I think some of the unspoken conflict with Quelana and Godelif may have come from them protecting and caring for their baby brother against their mother’s wishes. I chose the name ‘Quillan’ because it translates to ‘Cub’ or ‘Runt’ which fits how his mother sees him.
Basically that is my research/headcanons into the family dynamics of the Chaos kids.
They are a bunch of sad, petty pyromancers who love each other despite their evil manipulative mother.
I just want to draw a lot of comics of them being silly sad immortal siblings right before they all died horribly in a demonic flame.
Is that too much to ask?

“quelaag...”
“no. i haven’t been for a while now. i am, sorry, that i’m not her”
“i... suspected as much, my sister was never able to gather much humanity at one time. what happened to her?”
“she died.” the i killed her went unsaid.
“oh.”
“quelana is outside though, i’ve convinced her to visit you. she’ll have a lot to tell you about what’s been happening lately.”
“why does this.. sound like goodbye?”
“i have some more humanity here for you, i won’t be needing it any longer. thank you, firekeeper. for what you’ve done. perhaps we could have gotten to know one another better, but someone has to rekindle the flame.”
“this is our end, then. i suppose telling you to stay safe would be...useless. may the flames guide you.”
“farewell, firekeeper.”
“goodbye, kindler of flames”
