Please explain me, how it’s possible to “questions the history of Western painting” (according to someone from @brooklynmuseum) just by putting anonymous black man in the place of Napoleon? Maybe it’s time to question the whole European history? Only because there were not many black non-Europeans involved as kings, warriors or revolutionaries? With all respect to #KehindeWiley’s monumental, nine-foot portrait ‘Napoleon Crossing the Alps’ which according to the same source “a new kind of portraiture that redefines and affirms Black identity”. #jacqueslouisdavid originals are too boring for modern society I guess, but I still can’t get the idea... why he tries to slide into someone else’s history to prove something? And what exactly? That he can draw as European could 200 years ago, just a bit worse? I’m sorry, but I see here populism and I just don’t understand why does museum expert write such kind of stupidity about questioning the history of painting? Who's ready to talk about "THE MASOCHIST GIRL" issue of @shamemagazine? Actually I don't understand what is the purpose of it: just a provocation of discussion, real attempt to show how time changed and how we react on things that were scandalous but progressive in their time and look doubtful now and might cause sort of troubled social response. Though I don't understand the purpose of Chanel photo (I guess there was some, even if it's a fake), I still miss this sort of statements, that provoke feelings and make us to reconsider our moral or social values. As for name of the issue, I wouldn't buy it, because it's undervalue the problem this issue carries inside which is wider. Obviously not just about sex or attitude, not even undermining of women dignity and rights. I think the name could be way more interesting. Now it just puts another stamp on the women. In my opinion, of cause. What is yours?
