I find it kind of pathetic that there are people accusing Jon Stewart of being a self-hating Jew for being critical of Israel's actions. Jon Stewart is critical of everything. He is the USA's most popular and influential media critic. He's not only entertaining, he serves the important function of speaking truth to power that so much of the "legitimate" media has abandoned in favor of chasing profitable niches and new revenue models.

Jon Stewart is someone with whom I'm proud to share a home state and an ethnicity. The pursuit of Truth is one of the great virtues in Judaism, and no one in popular media pushes that agenda harder than Stewart.

I'm starting to really appreciate why Pirkei Avot said that Truth was as worthy a virtue as Justice and Peace. We live in an era where media bias is so rampant it takes great effort to parcel out the truth from the sin. Acting on lies can lead to grave, grave consequences because people will readily believe lies that conform to their perspective of the world. We need to pursue Truth as rigorously as we do Justice and Peace; especially when it's uncomfortable.
