Though Lysa was the younger, her wedding was the first; Rickard Stark was as much a man of patience as her own Father, and there was still much and more to be agreed for a Stark and Tully marriage alliance, but Tywin Lannister was not a man to wait, for waiting allowed too much to change. And so Lysa wed Jaime within such a short time of their betrothal, that Catelyn felt she had lost her sister too quickly to fare well to her. 

She was delighted, of course; Lysa always wished for a handsome husband such as the singers spoke of and none could deny Jaime Lannister was beautiful, with those eyes the colour of gemstones and the shining mane of glorious blonde hair. It was if he had been fashioned for her sister’s fantasies alone. 

And if Jaime Lannister was handsome, then his twin was beautiful, though there was a hardness to those eyes as she watched the newly wedded couple. “I imagine it is as strange for you to see your brother wed as it is to see my sister”

When Robb had informed her, as they sat about maps and plans at the Twins with the rest of the men around them, that he intended to send her away, it had put it to her as good sense. If Jeyne was in Riverrun, he would not have his Mother there too, to have all he held dear in one place of attack, and nor would he risk his Mother beside him in battle. Yet, despite this reasoning, sound as it might seem on first hearing, Catelyn could not help but feel it was some punishment for opposing him on the matter of Jon Snow...and his men readily agreed to it due to the matter of releasing Jaime Lannister. 

Regardless of the true reasoning behind his decision, Catelyn had soon found herself packed off far from sight, travelling through Westeros by the light of the stars only, with the smallest of retinue, hidden at every turn....fate driving her further and further south, though she longed for north, for home, until she had reached the oppressing heat of Dorne, under the protection of their Dornish allies.

“If he thinks to protect me, he knows not the pains a Mother will suffer at such silence from her son....here I feel further from news of him than ever,” Catelyn confessed as she sat besides Prince Doron, the shade protecting her from the sun, for her fair skin did not fare well beneath it.

Mayhaps she might once have cared for the fate the Freys had sealed for her, but with the last of her children gone before her eyes, her sweet boy, her dear Robb, murdered before her eyes at her own brother’s wedding, what did life matter? What did any of it matter? The madness of grief had taken her over for a time, she knew, for much of her memories at the Twins were vague and dark and beyond her reach, but she had scars along her arms, scars down her cheeks, that she had been told she had caused herself, scratching at her own skin violently as she lay crumpled before the body of her son.

They had been fond of retelling that tale until she had grown numb to everything but the wish for death...but even that they had not granted. The Lady of Winterfell fetched a high price all told, for the slaver who wished to add notoriety to his collection she supposed...she cared not. She only wanted this life over; Ned and her children were waiting for her....but it was hard not to be drawn a little from mournful reverie when surrounded by others who also suffered, other slaves, including a young woman, a woman who had a son as Catelyn once had.

“A sweet fruit for a sweet boy,” She offered to little Theo the slice of strawberry she had managed to secure into her sleeve without notice, “My sister and brother and I would oft sneak cakes from the kitchen as children; it is a skill you never forget” Catelyn explained as she looked to the Mother...and if she was caught, a beating mattered nothing to her, and if it made a little boy smile, then it was worth the price.

Plot drop: Media Frenzy

With the semi-recent appointment of Cici Lawton ( @cerseilionesslannister ) as Prime Minister of Westeros, the Reborns are finding their lives decidedly easier. No longer do they fear being taken off the street by members of Section 43, a government section now since disbanded and blackfiled under the Lawton government, and now any acts against them are considered legally a hate crime and thus punished accordingly. While there may still people who do not like the Reborns, no longer do they have to fear hate action against them.

 However Cici’s evident connection to the Wildfires ( @wineinthewidow ) does have them nervous, especially as the group’s rather explosive actions have not exactly ceased, and there are rumours that there is dissension in the ranks, changing of sides, and wildfire turned against wildfire...which has everyone nervous. And what is their end game? Power? The Throne? A Reborn take-over? Lannister rule? Or simply chaos? 

Yet, in a world of politics and concerns over safety and life and death, there will be always those ready to cash in. Now as the Reborn list was leaked six months ago, and their existence now legally accepted, a Reborn their PM, newspapers, magazines, history authors, publishing houses, podcast runners, radio hosts are all vying for interviews with some of the more famous Reborns. Cersei Lannister, their PM, is top of the list, but then there’s Ned Stark-- was he really the traitor the history books say he was, the Hound, the Mountain, the extinguished Tully family, Walder Frey, Tywin Lannister, the list is endless...and everyone is desperate for an interview with one of them.

She sometimes lived that day over, the choices which might have been made differently, if she had not chosen to ride alone that day without guard, if she had chosen to turn her horse in the left and not the right she might have come upon only well meaning common folk instead of these opportunistic attackers who held her here to ransom over Ned’s head. At least she had managed to bite and to kick and to inflict some damage before she found herself defeated. Would that she could weild a weapon as the Mormont women could. 

The men did not hail from the North nor even beyond the Wall, she knew, and she wondered what it was that had drove them so far from their homes. Desperation, evidently, for the demands they had sent to Ned were no less than absurd. 

She had been there a seven-night when she heard the announcement of ‘riders’ and ‘it’s the wolf banner’, but when she was dragged outside by the arm, back as straight as she was able to maintain, refusing to look weakened or fearful, praying Ned had not come, that he had not left the children, she came out to find it was not many riders but only one. 

“Godric,” She gasped, not with surprise but with relief, though the men who held her hostage laughed amongst themselves at the sight of one lone man. 

“Is this all Lord Stark sends?” They asked, “Does he not realise we have his wife, not his dog”

“Maybe you’re getting old,” Kate teased, “And now you’re having a senior moment” She laughed a little at him, but her body was still tender from the surgery despite being home now and she winced a little when she laughed too much. 

“You know my Mum always says that if you forget what you meant to say then what you were going to say was a lie” She frowned, “It really annoyed me growing up” Another laugh, but a more careful one this time.

“We are none of us in control of our minds while we sleep,” Catelyn said in understanding, “And too oft fears we think we have bettered visit us afresh when we slumber. It is a cruel trick, but one we all fall victim to...even your Father has nightmares, Arya” They all came from the war, she knew, though not all would he share the intimate details, some he seemed to think too harrowing for his wife’s ears and so he suffered those night terrors alone, her embrace the only comfort she could offer. 

“Tell me the dream and mayhaps we could right it...” She suggested gently, reaching out to tuck Arya’s nest of hair behind her ear.

From the moment the lights went up it had turned to chaos. There had been confusion enough with the hand and the ear, but when the lights went out, only to reveal a murdered Walder moments later...well they might as well have been a stampede as a ballroom, for how the people rushed and massed and panicked. Had anyone even thought to call the police yet? Or were they all to busy tryng to distance themselves from the crime? Catelyn, in any other circumstnce, might make the call herself, but in light of Walder’s little pre-death display, she had a more concerning matter.

“The ear I might reason...but the hand was found by police, how did he come to have it?” Catelyn hissed, dragging Cersei aside without ceremony; they were blocked from sight by heavy doors and an ostentatious corridor and people were too busy hurrying their children out to notice.
