She was quite confused. The shadow beasts were after her, she couldn’t stay in one place for too long. If she did not find shelter soon, she would have to stand and fight them.

She was pretty used to compliments on her appearance. She took great care to keep herself immaculate at all times, even in private. That was just the way you were taught to do things when you were princess of an entire kingdom.

“It is a very nice castle, is that the only reason you came here? I do appreciate your kind words.”

She pulled him in as fast as she could. She didn’t want him getting soaked, though it may have been a little late for that. She was pretty soaked herself, the rain had come so suddenly.

Link looked confused. Perhaps more confused than he had done in a while. He had never celebrated a birthday. Whilst the Great Deku tree had done something to mark when he had come to the forest, it wasn’t really a birthday. Honestly, no one knew when he was born, least of all Link himself.

“I don’t know when that was,” he said, laughing sheepishly. “I mean, there was a celebration of when I was dropped in the forest, but not a birthday.” Giving a nervous laugh, he rubbed the back of his head. What else was he supposed to do in this situation?

“I see. That is too bad.”

She certainly didn’t know when he was born, she hadn’t even known he’d really existed until she had those prophetic dreams, all those years ago. She knew there would be a boy from the forest who would be the savior of Hyrule, but that didn’t include a birthday. Truth be told, she felt bad for him. Everyone deserved the chance to celebrate their birthday.

“Do you think the Great Deku Sprout would know of the day you were actually born?”

She wasn’t sure how much the little creature knew, only that he had knowledge from the original Deku Tree, before he passed. Did the Great Deku Tree even know of the actual day Link was born? Or did he only know what they celebrated, the day he came to the forest?

“In any case, I will gladly celebrate the day you came to the forest, as though it was your birthday. We could have a big party, and a large cake, that I would be baking myself, of course.”

She didn’t know much about riding a boat, she’d only been on one once, a time when they were sailing to another country to discuss business. But they hadn’t encountered a storm or anything.
