Mixtaped 003 with Paralights (Ayan De) @midicore - Quick 5 interview + microlist003
I met Ayan De for the first time at at Cafe Goa some years ago performing with Siddharth Basrur. Their singer-songwriter act was called Bones For Bertie. Since that day, I've got to know him better as a workaholic music producer working at his Midicore studio, along with many local indie bands & artists like The Lightyears Explode, Sandunes, Goddess Gagged & Blek to name a few. Late last year, he made me listen to some of his tracks under the Paralights moniker & I was blown by its down tempo trip-hop & breaks sound. He was also one of the early guys who I had consulted with regarding the Mixtaped! 'micro' parties. He loved the concept & when I asked if he would like to perform on a night like this, he sealed the deal right away. To keep up with the promise, this Wednesday we are featuring his Paralights project. I really dunno what he is gonna be doing, however this is what he told me when I asked him the standard 5 questions....
Production work on most Indie acts in Bombay such as Siddharth Basrur, Goddess Gagged, Vice Versa, Blek, The Light Years Explode, Your Chin, Sky Rabbit to name a few.
3) What can we expect from you this Wednesday?
Honestly I'm not sure. I'm still working out a couple of quirks, but it is most likely going to be a live electronica set.
4) Which has been the most influential mixtape and/or album in your life?
Not really sure, but I remember having a mixtape which I had purchased when I was much younger and used it till it got worn out. However for the life of me I cannot remember its name. It was the first tape that had music that I really was into and has definitely shaped where I am now.
5) Who would you like to listen to as a featured artist in any of the upcoming Mixtaped! sessions?
I would love to see as many music related non musicians and DJs play out their favorite music lists or sets, like music journalists or artist managers or engineers.... it would be interesting to see what influences the people who work behind the scene.
