Caucus Confusion: The Iowa Wrap Up
Caucus Confusion: The Iowa Wrap Up
The pollsters blew it again on Monday night. According to the final poll by Quinnipac, Trump was supposed to win by seven points followed by Cruz, Rubio and Carson. The winner was clearly botched. Even the Princeton Election Consortium, that holds an astounding record of predicting elections, had Trump as the clear victor. So what happened? With hindsight, the results make sense. Everything came…

Republicans Completey F*cked As Trump Surges In Polls After Mocking Disabled Reporter
Even after mocking an unfriendly reporter’s physical disability and then demanding an apology from the person he mocked, Donald Trump should, by all rights, have been laughed out of the room as a serious contender for the Republican nomination. But a new Quinnipac University poll released on Wednesday confirms what many of us already suspected: The nastier and more horrible Donald Trump is, the…

The Faculty Perspective: Dr.Sprengelmeyer
By Ruth Onyirimba
In the series, The Faculty Perspective, members of faculty respond to pop culture from their areas of expertise.
In this article, a music professor gives his opinion of the three highest rating songs of this week, according to Billboard.
Faculty Member:
Dr. George Sprengelmeyer
BM, MM: Hartt School of Music
D.M.A. (Doctorate of Musical Arts): Johns Hopkins Univ.
Fun Facts:
· Sprengelmeyer has played guitar for 30+ years, stating, “I don’t ever remember a time I didn’t play guitar.”
· He has played in several different bands, including his self-named cover group, “Radioactive Field Mice.”
· After growing bored with rock n’ roll, Sprengelmeyer became a classical musician at the age of 14.
· After studying at the Hartt School of Music, he studied at the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University.
· Sprengelmeyer continues to research different genres of music from around the world.
· After being asked what makes music good, Sprengelmeyer said the music would be “something interesting, something that I haven’t heard before, or something that is particularly well-done.” Unfortunately, Billboard’s top 3 songs of the week didn’t meet his expectations.
The Review:
#3: “Can’t Feel My Face,” by The Weeknd
Sprengelmeyer concluded that the song wasn’t particularly terrible, and that The Weeknd does a passable Michael Jackson impression. Unfortunately, he also states that the song itself lacks originality. He calls the song “plastic,” referring to the lack of real instruments being used in the song.
Stars: 2.5
#2: “What Do You Mean,” by Justin Bieber
“I do not know why this song is popular,” Sprengelmeyer said. While discussing the song’s simplistic beat, he says, “Classical music went through a minimalist period… but this is not minimalist. This is terrible.” After being asked to give this song a rating, he replied, “It’s hard to discuss, ‘cause it’s so unbelievably terrible.” He later stated, “Can I give it negative stars? In [that] case, I’d give it a perfect negative five.” He was not permitted to give the song negative stars.
Stars: N/A
#1: “The Hills,” by the Weeknd
Sprengelmeyer states that the song is “really, really not strong at all.” He comments that he slightly prefers this song to “What Do You Mean,” but unfortunately, not by much.
Stars: 1.5
In conclusion, Sprengelmeyer comments on the ever-changing nature of music. He states, “You don’t want me to like your music. I’m your dad. I’m 47 years old, it’s not made for me.”
