So I am in only two (2) otome game fandoms: Wonderful Wonder World and Cybird Ikemen, and I bring this up because the series and fandoms are very different from each other and I have thoughts about that. To start with, WWW never really got as much material translated and released in English and, by extent, doesn’t have nearly as much presence over here in the West. What they did translate ended up being pretty bad, between the Seven Seas manga and the whole fiasco of their attempt at releasing the original Alice in the Country of Hearts game as an App Store otome game, and was really unsuccessful.
With Quinrose shutting down and Spade no Kuni being released a couple years ago by whatever studio bought the property out, I have a new idea - what if this new studio somehow contracted the services of Cybird’s translation team to translate the existing Alice games, since Cybird’s team is so genuinely good at it? In my ideal world we’d get all the games, or at least one of each country, either on PC or adapted into the new kind of otome app game. I think the reason the app game didn’t work the first time was mainly just the shit quality of the translation but also because it was the older type of App Store otome game where everything was paid only and it came out shortly before or even during the transition to the newer style. I just think it would be really cool to have the Alice series adapted into 5 or so App Store games that consolidate the canon material and smooth out the wrinkles in the worldbuilding and give us something genuinely really good, in English, that can be ftp. If not, straight translations into PC games on Steam would be cool.
It would be a great way to continue to make Alice series content without just endlessly expanding the series and it would be profitable for the company as well. But I especially love the idea of the new otome app game style because we could get actual, interactive events like birthdays, story events, collection events, and route releases. It would also work well for the Alice series because instead of having stuff like Twin World be a separate game, it could be the ‘act 2’ content of a regular Country of Hearts game, and the same goes for Joker, which would help with consolidation for the purposes of covering as much ground as possible when translating and releasing English content. It could be like hnkna + twin world as one, then cnkna + joker as another, and then diamond/mirror world as its own, and finally both black and white spade as the last game, maybe omochabako separately for a little bonus treat. Idk I just feel like that would be absolutely perfect and I want it SO BADLY.
