Six clarifications regarding nursery rhymes
1. Regarding the wheels on the bus. We would like to clarify that the wheels do not go round and round all day long, but in fact make necessary stops throughout the day to allow passengers to get on, comply with traffic regulations, et cetera. Additionally, the wheels on the bus do not go round and round when the bus is in the depot overnight. We trust that this clarification makes it more apparent that we are not in contravention of safety and emissions regulations.
2. Following a number of complaints we have had from visitors to Mary Mary's garden. We would like to remind you that Mary's rhyme career has been based on her reputation as a controversial, contrary character from whom listeners do not necessarily expect to hear the truth. Her public statements should be evaluated in this light. A simple application of common sense would tell you that silver bells and cockle shells do not grow from seed, and if you visit her garden intending to see them you will be disappointed.
3. Regarding the grand old Duke of York. We consider this statement to be needless exaggeration, bordering on slander. To our knowledge, the Duke had only five or six men, and he was scrupulously faithful to each during the period of their relationship. It is true that he did like to take his companions on brisk walks in the countryside, but describing them as marches implies a degree of coercion that was not present.
4. Regarding weasels. Weasels do not pop. You are thinking of balloons.
5. Regarding Mary (again). As we have discussed, Mary intentionally uses misinformation and hyperbola in her statements. It is probably true that she had a little lamb. It certainly did not follow her everywhere, as can be seen from any casual examination of her public appearances. In fact, Mary has always complied fully with all regulations regarding livestock movements and quarantine.
6. Regarding the complaint of Little Bo-Peep (Ms.) about livestock theft. Mary would never steal a lamb. Any statements from her to the contrary should be taken as fabrications for dramatic effect. Nevertheless, we believe that the sheep in question were all tagged. Therefore the question should be easily resolvable without the once-again unnecessary intervention of lawyers.
