Annon-Guy: Hey GP... ever had a loss record in a fighting game that no matter what you do, it's ALWAYS higher than your win record?
And when you beat one guy, they destory you the next two times when you rematch them? Just... frustrated 😔...
Current record in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. [43 Wins - 63 losses]
I actually don’t pay all that much attention to Win or Loss records, because those are typically relative to how active you are as a Player.
If you’re a regular in High Ranked matches it might give you an idea of your consistency, but it’s not always accurate because it depends on the frequency of playing other players.
Most fighting games only record your Win/Loss stats when it comes to Netplay specifically, which is hardly accurate to Offline Match Data or even Arcade Mode or Score Attack records.
This is even MORE SKEWED by the fact every other statistic in your profile is recorded based on All Activity, not just Netplay. For example, Strive will record data every time you successfully Block an Overhead Mixup attempt outside of Training Mode.
So far, the only game I’ve seen that provides accurate data is Mortal Kombat 11, which records stats you get from Fighting Towers just as much as Online Matches. Their approach is much better if you ask me, anyways.
This also does not account for Character Overall Useage Data, which is data almost exclusive to older Arcade game data. Even in Accent Core, useage data and matchup data are recorded, while the closest thing you get in later games is how high your character’s Level is, but again it doesn’t show how often they are used unless you look at specific stats related to Win Rate by Character perhaps.
It’s also possible for that data to get erased or reset depending on the circumstances. Even a sudden blackout could reset your win records if you’re unlucky enough!
That data is ALSO not accurate Across Platforms. My win records on PS4/PS5 can’t necessarily compare to my win record results on PC or Switch. And believe you me, I’ve played a LOT of fighting games across those platforms!
Still if you’re that fussy about it, there are in fact apps you can use that can help record your play data more accurately, but I have yet to know of any to especially recommend.
But even then, matchups are entirely situational and unpredictable, so one loss against one player one day may lead to a win on the next depending on who you’re up against.
Seriously though, it’s just data to determine your consistency, luck, and frequency as a player. I wouldn’t put much stock in the data, so long as you keep training and honing your skills!
I've been learning code lately (R specifically), and I got bored and made a full umamusume google sheet of the irl horse stats and stuff
I've never had more fun knowing that 48 umas have over 3 g1 wins :3
Having a lovecraft "lose my mind due to the incomprehensibility of what I am observing" moment but it's me trying to understand how the statistics my R code is doing work
R code is, in fact, going to be the death of me
Plot and the code to make it
