The Planner commissioned me to illustrate an article about what the new year might hold once the COVID-19 R number has been driven down, or perhaps even pushed off a cliff.

Also, just to be clear, the coronavirus R rate is obviously based on known cases, so there is about a 2 week lag (probably slightly more when you consider delays in getting tested etc).
2 weeks ago we were all very much in the grips of the Dominic Cummings saga.
Just saying ;)
Health secretary regurgitates more mantra despite UK coming bottom of ratings for its handling of the pandemic
Good to know that the R rate for Coronavirus in my region is the higest in the country. Now is not the time for complacency.
Sooo, it’s all over bar the shouting eh?
You’d think so given the crammed beaches and beauty spots, kids roaming in the aisles of our local B and M and the smell of BBQ on the early evening breeze. Not to mention the reassuring headlines from HM Government (please follow the PM’s example. Don’t read the detail).
The trouble is I do. Can’t help it.
We still have 56,000 new cases a week. ONS
The “R” rate was only just below 1 before the lockdown really eased. Not likely to have gone down in the last two weeks is it?
Spain still doesn’t allow movement between regions and differentiates between areas with different risks. Their daily death rate is well below 100.
Those who need to shield have to stay shielded. Why? Because the risk is still all too real.
Personally I think I’ll stay safe and BBQ in the garden.
PS. Yes, I do understand they are trying to balance safety and economics. That’s what they have to do and everyone can get it wrong. Just don’t do it with me and my family please.
