This is a real quick fan sketch/drawing for a book called The Last Hour of Gann. It’s an amazing book and story, though it does get very dark. But you come to love and love to hate characters and the world building is incredible. I would love to read stories just about the world of Gann and what’s to come.

Featuring in this picture is Amber, our main girl and the best lizardman Meoraq. Though I haven’t done him justice. I’m not familiar with drawing aliens, much less lizard aliens but it definitely was fun, even if I gave up pretty early.

Redesign the cover of Land of the Beautiful Dead

I finished Last Hour of Gann and Land of the Beautiful Dead, the latter is still my favorite.

I try to read R.Lee Smith the Lords of Arcadia series but I give up on the 3rd book😩 I found her early works you will enjoy 75% of the book and nearly the end it "bang!" you feel very uncomfortable with certain event. R.Lee Smith is one hell of a wordsmith indeed, but I am tired for reading 1000+ pages but ended up feeling weird at 80% progress.

Does anyone has any recommendation for book similar like Land of the Beautiful Dead? It's has sweet and angst and flawless ending? 😭

I read Noami Novik’s Uprooted a while ago and what stuck to me was the wood scenes. That was a total 180 degree turn from what i was expecting. Rather than fantasy/romance, horror became the predominant feeling. Take note that I read this in the early hours of the morning, coincidentally it was even 3 o'clock.

i just kept thinking about possession and exorcism while the scenes unfolded. I was like ‘is this really a book for young adults?’ 

Props to the author for making me feel this way. I was really unsettled and disturbed. Though I didn’t set out for this, I appreciate books that give life to the pages, creating nightmare fuel (:P) and spicing up this monotonous anhedonic state.

This reminds me of R. Lee Smith’s books except a little more friendly with the younger readers.

You know, she also had a ‘learning magic’ element in Scholomance. It also had some parallels with the demons and the tree like things. hmmm, that may be a spolier but anyway. that’s another book for another time.
