Following "The Rise of Gawain, Nephew of Arthur" (de ortu waluuanii) I do really like to think he was raised in Rome, maybe because of the wars of succession taking place n Lot and Morgause wanted to ensure their heirs would yk survive and maybe they even send Agravaine there too. And he doesn't grow up with Gaheris & Gareth & Cundrie & Mordred which is a) why he has such a hard time recognizing Gareth (chubby baby to teenager working in the kitchens is a big jump) and b) why there's a whole mess of knighting Agravaine and Gaheris and stuff. I also like to think that since the armies in Rome used Latin or greek for their military expeditions he had such a hard time in his first campaign because he simply doesn't know any of those terms and while he and Agravaine used their own tongue to talk to each other they're just left standing in the battlefield like what. Huh. What.

I also think he doesn't really have the head for strategy, he's too impulsive and led by emotions and the heat of the moment and it often ends up in him just jumping headfirst into something without much thought and he always regrets it sooo much later <3 unchangeable trait unfortunately <3 look where it leads us <3

And Gringolet was straight up a magical horse which is why he survives sooooo many fucking adventures like that beast ain't dying of old age. Hes like oh yeah my horse is immortal. And thank god for it because if he died I WOULD go with. Gootbye.

Also he doesn't know how to play chess. He had one too many encounters with magical chessboards, thank YOU

i've been writing a lot of hans lately... to the point where even though i had started with henry POV, i am actually struggling to get back into his head! so i guess in a sense you could say i’m exploring his POV again!

as far as the camelot crew go, while i’m staying firmly in lance’s POV for the narration, i’m still exploring the perspectives of the other characters on the side to help flesh em out for myself. at the moment it’s been gawaine (with the help of @mewowzers !!!) and gwynevere!

i’ve had an. INCREDIBLY stupid idea for a oneshot bouncing around in my head. based on the idea that hans is a morning person who would do this at 4AM apropos of nothing. basically a little story about how hans is an early riser while henry is a sleepyhead and how they clash over it. dumb and sweet and sentimental

so because i’ve been exploring gwynevere’s perspective i’ve been delving into proxy shenanigans. this was always going to be an element of her romance with lance even in my first draft back in 2021, but i am getting so much more freaky with it this time around. i blame @rowanisawriter !!!! and frankly all of you holies!!!!!!!!! we’re getting WEIRD in this draft!!!!!!!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

what i’m working on + wip list game

thank you for the tag @r0entgen! I basically have a LOT of ideas and I'm like focusing so hard to get them all sorted together and planned out without my freelance work to suffer from it XD

The Secret of Castle Pirkstein: This is my current and only ongoing fic at the moment and it's basically an omega-verse fanfic of what would happen if KCD1 Hans was an omega and Henry an alpha, but they're called nymphs and satyrs instead (and basically EVERYONE in this fic are lying their head off and creating walking disasters waiting to happen)

Milk: I'm working on this fanfic's first chapter as I'm typing this out actually. (EDIT: I just posted it!) It explores Pre-KCD1 Hans meeting Black Bartosch in a Rattay tourney and discovering the pleasures of letting himself be passive and on the receiving end of lust while working out what masculinity means for him. (Also I plan to make him have tons of scandalous say gex bc he kinda discovers he doesn't care for women sexually at all)

Plunged Into Grey: I already have a shorter one-shot version of that finished on my AO3, but I want to expand and rewrite it to be more detailed. It's basically Erik going rogue and kidnapping Hans out of his captivity during Maleshov; Erik ends up torturing Hans in a hut in retaliation of Henry killing Istvan and there will basically be all hurt, but no comfort.

Hans x Sam x Henry: The ship says it all. It's going to be a one-shot sequel to my fanfic "Tell Me About Today" wherein Hans pushes Henry to let him indulge in his attraction towards Samuel (at which a threesome might ensue).

Hynce x Oldrich: This is also going to be set in the same universe as "Tell Me About Today" after Jin has put these brainworms into my head, and you already know what I want to do, but it will require me to form and crystalise entire new personalities for both Hynce and Oldrich, which will probably take a bit longer since they're basically going to be complete new OCs I'll have to figure out RIP but hopefully it WILL happen!

Dumb Ass Crack Fic Idea: This doesn't have an official name and might never even be written bc I came up with the idea half asleep, but I was thinking about writing a one-shot crack fic where all of the Devil's Pack and even the KCD characters outside the pack find out that they're all some flavour of queer and they're like "what the fuck is happening here" and they might gain sentience and realise they're in my fanfic LMAO IDK

I really like the fandom HC of Jana being the herbswoman in Skalitz, and in Brittnodo's "my voice will haunt you" she's cousins (? I do believe) with the Rattay apothecary, which is really cute (also super recommend that fic). So I'll give you two: first one being that, upon coming to Skalitz from Dvorce or Prague or wherever it was she and Radzig met, Konyash went to her house to help her get settled in and since then they regularly made visits to one another, when possible, to exchange news and recipes. Always very professional, but she appreciated the connection.

Secondly, I think she likes birds and critters. She has such a musical voice, surely she appreciates whistling along with the birds during spring, and trying to learn all about them whenever she can :)

HI ARI do you think Hans actually got the Lance and Galehaut story from a minstrel or do you think he's just an arthuriana freak. And if so what do you think are his favorite characters and poems

ohh that's a good question....... so, as far as i'm aware, most of these stories were experienced orally, performed by one or several people in an almost like. play-reading style? not acting on the stage but reading out with voices and stuff. and sometimes with musical accompaniment! so it is entirely possible that hans did in fact get the story from a minstrel (or several)! but it's equally possible that he read it in a book! we have a lot of surviving copies of the manuscript because it was so popular, most in french, but we know it was translated into other languages because we do have manuscripts in translation as well. so we know a lot of (wealthy, elite, literate) people were reading it as well.

the other thing about the lancelot-grail is that it's really, really long. there are a lot of parts to it. so most of the manuscripts we have are fragmentary, not only because not everything survived, but also because not every person who wanted to read the vulgate cycle wanted to read all of it. some people only kept the parts they were interested in. there are sections of it that are entirely self-contained, so that would be a totally plausible thing to do! which means that, if hans were to have encountered the story in a book rather than at a performance, it's possible he didn't have access to the entire vulgate cycle. but we know for sure he was exposed to at very least the prose lancelot. which is the longest part!

and i do think he's an arthuriana freak. most educated nobility were, back in the day. i have absolutely no idea what stories made it to bohemia, though. i have said before that i think he'd probably like tristan. he's a very lancelot-like figure in terms of like, courtly romance and stuff, except he's a thousand times lamer and more annoying than lancelot. sorry tristan fans i really dont like him lmao
