She is the daughter of Kushmanda, the prime minister of Bana. She is also good friends with Usha. When Usha, Anirudhha and Chitralekha go to Dwarka, she tags along with them. Krishna, after registering that she's also here, asks Rukmini to get her married to Samba, because Krishna had given the kingdom of Shonitapura to her father to rule after defeating Bana.
@atlasapphicweek Day 3: Hair! (Yes I know I’m a day late shhh)
Amma comes across Raava trying to chop off her own hair one day. She offers to help.
[Image ID: a digital sketch of Amma and Raava in mostly beige-ish grey tones. Raava is sitting, shown from the waist up, smiling into the mirror with a slightly awestruck expression. Her hair, freshly cut and a little longer than chin-length, is fluffed out and glows white. Amma is standing over her, smiling down at Raava with an uncharacteristically soft expression and a slight blush in her cheeks. End ID.]
I do know in the Fire Nation, at least, long hair is a symbol of honor. But to Raava, I think it carries the weight of all those thousands of years she spent forgotten or alone and in pain. In this story, her haircut is also one of the first things she actively chooses for herself because she wants it, and it’s not tied to serving a human in any way. Even if there’s a human there to help her :)
Trivia: The sanskrit chorus is referencing the tale of Ramayana in Hinduism, where Rama goes on a journey to rescue his wife Sita. These particular lyrics were used by “Krishna Das” in the song “Baba Hanuman”. The first part can be translated as “Victory to Sita and Rama. Victory to Hanuman.” and the second is a mantra praising the names of Sita (Seetaa/Seeyaa) and Rama (Raama).
Transcribed lyrics below:
As I go through life in search of everything
I have wished my heart away..
And I have watched this all behind a fear of pain
No one knows this more than I..
I need one more to take it home now.. (now.. now.. now..)
I've got no more to turn the page
Please, I love her..
Jaya seeyaa raama, jai jai hanumaan..
Jaya seeyaa raama, jai jai hanumaan..
Know!
Have I told you lately all that you mean to me?
Have I told you that I love you?
Have I called to say I'm sorry I made you feel this way?
Have I even told you that I care?
Just need one more to take this home now tonight.. (tonight.. tonight.. )
I've got no war to fuel the rage.. (rage.. rage.. rage..)
I need one more to take this home now.. (now.. now.. now..)
I've got no more to fear the pain.. (pain..!)
I love her!!!
(Raama. Seeta.
Raama. Seeta.
Raama. Seeta.
Raama. Seeta.)
WOAH!!
(..Oh!)
Jaya seeyaa raama, jai jai hanumaan.. (I love her!)
Jaya seeyaa raama, jai jai hanumaan..
Jaya seeyaa raama, jai jai hanumaan..
(Hare raama raama raama, seetaa raama..)
Jaya seeyaa raama, jai jai hanumaan..
(Hare raama raama raama, seetaa raama..)
Jaya seeyaa raama, jai jai hanumaan..
(Hare raama raama raama, seetaa raama..)
Jaya seeyaa raama, jai jai hanumaan..
(Hare raama raama raama, seetaa raama..)
Jaya seeyaa raama, jai jai hanumaan..
Hare raama raama raama, seetaa raama..
(Jaya seeyaa raama, jai jai hanumaan..)
Hare raama raama raama, seetaa raama..
(Jaya seeyaa raama, jai jai hanumaan..)
Hare raama raama raama, seetaa raama..
(Jaya seeyaa raama, jai jai hanumaan..)
Hare raama raama raama, seetaa raama..
(Jaya seeyaa raama, jai jai hanumaan..)
Hare raama raama raama, seetaa raama..
(Jaya seeyaa raama, jai jai hanumaan..)
Drawing older Amma made me emotional…she never really thought about growing old or living a happy life. She’d dedicated so much of herself to her science, which became dangerous and unethical over time, before meeting Raava. She thought that was how she would spend the rest of her life - alone, living for her dangerous science.
What happened was very different than she envisioned, though. Her and Raava live a long, happy life together. <3
[Image ID: a sketch of Raava and Amma dancing together, drawn in the same beige-ish grey tones as the other two days. Amma has one arm over her head and one in front of her and stands on one foot, her head turned to smile at Raava. She looks on the older side, with visibly greying hair and smile lines, and she wears a knitted sweater. Raava is wrapped around her in her long, kitelike spirit form with a happy expression. Additionally to her canon appearance, she has two extra starlike “eyes”, smaller and positioned beneath and to the sides of her main ‘eye’, and she has frills along her entire body like a sea slug. Day 1 of @atlasapphicweek, writing for my ship Raama! (Raava x Amma, an oc that’s mine and @hatedflesh’s)
Sparring (I might have stretched the prompt just a little, they are genuinely enemies at the time of this drawing - however! their matches often do become games of who can show off more)
[Image ID: a digital sketch of Amma, a tall slightly haggard-looking woman with her hair tied back, wearing a lab coat, and with spines on her back, standing in shadow over a struggling flustered-looking Raava, a flatworm-esque spirit with long tendrils with her trident pinning her head down. End ID]
“Raava can’t be a lesbian she was in love with Wan!!” I’m sorry you haven’t had the experience of loving someone platonically so deeply that you’d die for them and also be with them for all their lifetimes and watch them change and grow but that is an experience that can in fact not be romantic. Anyways I’m going to draw more Raava x Amma sau and yall can’t stop me
