I will defend Carol Sturka's Wrongs!
Yeah, Carol is unlikeable, so what?
If she were a recently widowed middle-aged man forced to interact with his book character lookalike while trying to save the world, people would jump into the ocean to defend his actions and actively want him to fuck this character imposter.
I am glad we have a middle-aged closeted widow who is grieving and lashing out.
Some of you are too spoilt because of watching a single tear rolling down the cheek of widows clutching on to their cardigans while wind blows through their perfect hair, and it is showing the way you all are reacting to Carol's actions.
Grieving is not a dignified act like tele shows you; grieving is messy. Death is a cruel reality, and when it comes for our loved ones before their time, it creates a lot of anger and rage in the one who is left behind with nothing but memories. In Carol's case, her wife is gone, yet her whole consciousness is part of a fucking hive mind that will never love her back like Helen would. All Carol has of Helen is her imperfect memories of Helen and the realization that 7 billion humans have access to her dead wife's perfect memories of their time together.
On top of that, she has the guilt of killing 11 million people because of her anger and rage.
I would torture Zosia in the worst ways my human imagination would permit, even if she were attractive.
Women grieve, women lash out, women can be mean, and women can be equally cruel.
Violence and rage are not the exclusive privilege of cishet men.
What do you think how much of Carol changing Raban to male was bc she was scared of outing herself publicly (which you basically do if you write a book with a gay protagonist) and how much was the publisher’s influence or the money?
I imagine a big publishing house that pays more money and provides better promotion would prefer more mainstream stories that appeal to a bigger audience (assuming that gay love stories mostly appeal to gay people which is just 10 % of the population) and a bigger audience means bigger incomes for Carol anyway even if the publisher was ok with female Raban.
If she could have made the same money with a female Raban would she still have changed the gender?

Imma be so real, if they defictionalized Wycaro and turned it into a full novel series featuring trans woman Raban, I would read the fuck out of it every day for the rest of my life.
