open // rabies - southern asshole vampire -> anyone, any relation
"go ahead, cupcake. get real pissy. it's gonna help the position yer in." his hands come together and he rubs them, the sound scratching and grating until they're pushing up through his hair. "you can either start talkin' real nice, or i can walk away."
@rasskaz4ik liked for a starter -> ly my beloved.
she comes home, and there he is, laying on her sofa as if the world is alright and this is perfectly normal. he hasn't even taken those god awful combat boots that have seen too much muck off, and they're staining the upholstery.
rabies has his arm tucked up and over his forehead, but the one that hangs over the side of the sofa has a mostly drained large bottle of vodka in its grasp. cheap shit, but strong, filling the air with its stank.
"oh good, yer fuckin' —" a hiccup. "yer back. did ya bring what i asked for?" he'd never actually sent the text demanding she bring back food. or warning her that he was there at all.
the texas-oklahoma border isn't necessarily where he wants to be, but he had agreed to take on the duty of escorting some parisian dancer, fresh in off the boat from across the pond, all the way into dallas. easy money, he'd been told and believed, since all he'd have to do was make sure the woman lived long enough to reach the city by way of that black bullet train racing down the tracks.
the only issue - the only reason - they wanted a ranger on the job at all, is the rise in reports of bandits up north there near that border, where it is easier to catch up just outside of town before that long expanse of nothing 'til the next one. there hadn't been any reported injuries or deaths yet, but the big man didn't want to risk that changing this time.
so now, here he sits, going on forty minutes with boots kicked up onto the crate not far from him as he makes himself comfortable. wesley had come into town the night before on the only other train going through this week, and that had been hell in of itself. a car all by his lonesome, with not an ounce the ability to sleep. and time's gone slow ever since leaving dallas.
she'd be coming in on a coach from wichita, they'd told him, and oh how he's jumped up at least twice since coming into the station that morning, but neither of those had even had a woman inside, let alone the one he's there for.
it's the third that has to be the charm. white horses, the coach itself a little fancier than the other two had been, and the ranger is hopping up off his bench seat to brush himself off a bit, adjust his vest so he looks a bit more proper than he had a moment prior. boots thud and jangle their spurs as he walks across that plain planked platform towards the side the coach pulls up on, a hand coming up to rest on the pillar near the edge of the deck and the other resting hooked into his holster belt.
waiting. just waiting. the brim of his hat tipped up so all is clear, his face to whatever one steps first out of that carriage.
@wihlted gets baby rabies
"because it's the only part of me that's left that is anything near human," he whispers in return, his hand coming up to touch at hers, where his back has bent to allow her that grace without her having to climb onto something to reach. the self doubt, the loathing, continues. it's so engrained in the depths of his blood that there is a heady possibility that it flows in the place of the crimson ichor.
"so you realize that i'm not worth all this fight you're puttin' into things. you 'n richie? y'all got a chance. there's nothin' with me." his head lifts as he pulls away from her natural reach, rising up and releasing her hand so that it can fall back to her side. "i'll outlive ya, if you can manage t' stand me half that long. he won't. not by enough that'll be..."
head tips back and he looks skyward, then back to her. hands find the pockets of his jeans and he chews his lower lip. it hurts, just to think about the facts. the inevitabilities.
"it's easier for you t' hate me. for you t' walk away. i can handle the pain. i won't let you saddle that, though. i won't let you do somethin' as stupid as love me, when it'll be nothin' good."
@wihlted sent : my muse gently cups your muse’s face, whispering, “why do you always have to make things so difficult?” / RABIES when hes like nooo im not human im bad and shes like stfu. i love u
@echolaliia sent : "Uh oh, are we having big feelings?" No fanfare; she's deadpan, hands shoved in jean jacket pockets, staring him down with a too bright gaze. "Sometimes it's okay to take a nap about them and not reign terror on the local gas station commun—" She can't keep a straight face. — Salem sucks in her cheeks momentarily, and clears her throat. “Rabies, this isn’t you…You’re not yourself when you’re hungry. Please.” — Yeah okay, so she threw in a little bit of a Snickers commercial. Who the fuck's gonna know?
it may be a joke to salem - and it will be to everyone on the forum that continuously posts about the feral florida dilf too -, but in the moment he's out in space, deep in the throes of a combination of overstimulation, lack of proper nutritional intake, and lack of attention. in short? rabies really isn't himself when he's hungry, and not only is the staff that had been dressed up as a slice of pizza to advertise come and get some in more ways that one finding that out, but so is the whole town.
the coverage of the local news team had been why salem ended up here to begin with. becky bannigan had gotten a real nice shot of rabies ripping the gas station's slushee machine off its stand, just to stuff the nozzle into the pizza-faker's face and begin screaming is this a good enough deal for ya yet. and of course, dogmeat had seen said live footage. tried to be first on the scene but been overrun with the details of the newscasters giving her more trouble than usual.
it takes a few extra seconds for voice to hit his ears, for scent to reach his nostrils, and his pupils fluctuate wider than they already are, head whipping around to lay on the woman none-too-amused with a snarl aimed at generality rather than her. this time, he's gone too far with it all. shelving units pushed over, product spewn across the tile floors covered in blood and blue razz.
yet? even in the blind raging haze, he's pulling himself off the pizza man, who sputters and cries, and almost bestially hauling himself across the floor the good hundred feet or so to where salem stands. only upon reaching her does he stand up, drool and blood that's half his own, half someone else's caked into his hairline and on his clothes. no attention is paid to the caramel-chocolate carnage behind him. no, rabies is focused entirely on the wolf come calling.
open starter // anyone, any connection.
"it ain't that bad. scoot yer glass this way, i'll top you up." he reaches across the table to start pouring something vile from a flask into the other person's cup, and god does it smell like straight up rubbing alcohol and motor oil. "you'll forget about it soon enough."
