why does racial “progress” seem to require acts of violence, including the taking of Black lives? Their question ran deep. It would seem that only a small number of white folks are consistently and deeply concerned with the societal costs of racism on Black and Brown bodies, until a certain kind of Black person is killed in the streets.

Some of these are surprising, but I appreciate his point of view of some seemingly unrelated events in light of our racial history of the past 50 years. I think the mention of the oil crisis is particularly interesting as our economic fears make us less likely as a nation to care about the welfare of all citizens and hunker down to protect our "own"...
