sorry to say, but it's functioning properly, they only charge in sleep mode or while the switch is on

I forgot to say thank you for this but thank you! I figured.......if the console’s being charged while it’s off surely the joycons would be charging too....and Nintendo’s own help page about charging them doesn’t even tell you it has to be in sleep mode. In hindsight, all my issues might have just been because of patterns of use i.e. briefly sticking them on in sleep mode was enough because they weren’t getting used much, but now my partner’s playing a lot of Splatoon and it seems like they’re draining fast because they were never quite full to begin with
