Josh Berwanger / Casey Prestwood & the Burning Angels ft. Zephaniah O’Hora - “Cities” / “A New Kind of Love” 7” Split ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ @berwanger_music @caseyjamesprestwood @the_anniversary @hotrodcircuit @radarstate ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Just got my pre-release copy of Josh Berwanger and Casey Prestwood’s new split 7” on @lostbroadcast and I’ve been diggin both sides! Full disclosure, I grew up watching Josh rock the faces of Lawrence and Kansas City kids with his band The Anniversary and I’ve been a fan ever since. Casey, on the other hand, was the lead guitarist in Hot Rod Circuit, another absolute monument of a band in the middle era of emo. Josh and Casey have been friends since their days touring and gigging together and now both have moved on to some new projects, solo and otherwise. Josh and I have had a few fun evenings talking shop about some very specific flavors of power pop and classic rock from the 80s and I’m hearing so much of those bands on his track, “Cities”. It’s fun, it’s light and bouncy, and it’s got vibes from Candy’s “Whatever Happened to Fun?” on it (look it up, you’re welcome). Casey’s solo work is old school, stick-to-your-ribs country music and when I say country, I don’t mean arena pop with acoustic guitars…I mean this could be playing on the jukebox in an old dive bar in West Texas. He’s a master of pedal steel guitar and his voice fits the traditional country genre so perfectly you’d be forgiven if you thought this should have been played on an 8 track in an old beat up Chevy. This split rules, and you need it in your collection!
