Dear Canadians or anyone who has ever heard of CBC or Radio Q or Jian Ghomeshi or has any iota of an interest in media and the importance of sex education (aka that should be all of you)
Shit is going down right now.
CBC's Statement
Jian Ghomeshi's Personal Statement
PLEASE READ.
What is Jian Ghomeshi's favorite place in the city of Toronto?
While exploring the city of Toronto on our Sense of Place visit earlier this month, we had the pleasure of meeting fellow interviewer and broadcasting personality Jian Ghomeshi, host of the CBC's arts and culture program Radio Q. We asked Jian what his favorite place in the city was, and he pointed us to a farm nested right in the downtown of the buzzing metropolis.
Props to Jozina Leida for bringing this to my attention. **Both audio and video of this interview are available within the link** Below, CBC's description: In a Canadian broadcast exclusive, Jian Ghomeshi speaks with Aubrey "Drake" Graham, the Canadian artist dubbed rap's "stylistic standard-bearer". In a wide-ranging chat, Drake opens up on a childhood spent moving between the U.S. and Canada, why criticism from Toronto hurts the most, and why he's already thinking about his legacy at 26.
New obsession: Quebecois artist Coeur de Pirate. Super talented, lovely music, all in French. And the fact that her stage name means "Pirate Heart" is really just a bonus.
Also worth noting, I've been in love with host Jian Ghomeshi since I was 15 (back in the days of Moxy Früvous). Jian, you're flawless. Call me.
Much to my dismay, I must here admit the rightness of bald-headed, thick-pocketed Seth Godin, who called into Studio Q from his home in Westchester County, to advise the rest of the writing world against their feelings of entitlement to an income. (Click here for a listen at him.)
Good advice is, by nature of being advice, always hard to accept. (For some of us, anyway, it is.) When it comes from someone who has succeeded in our field, it's harder still, even though it bears the seal of authority. But when it comes from someone who, having succeeded in the way we hoped to succeed, tosses the advice over his shoulder while closing the door behind him...
Well, I was hoping to get back at him with a trenchantly righteous rebuttal. But I think he's right; I even hope (by 9:50) that he's right.
Deflated.
I still opine that it takes a mighty thick head to deliver this advice to other writers in the same breath that he reiterates his own best-seller cred. But his head must needs be thick, mustn't it, if he elects to sojourn hairless through those chilly patrician suburbs.
P.S. Jian Ghomeshi...call me, maybe?
