THIS JUST IN OVERNIGHT: MBNi's Q Radio Philippines to be permanently transitioned in selected stations thru Brigada News FM

MAKATI, MANILA -- Top 40's very own Q Radio, a music radio station in the Philippines is set to shut down nationwide and air its final broadcast last Friday night at 12mn onwards (June 30th, 2023 -- Manila local time) via a flagship Manila station as DWBM-FM 105.1mhz. Following its closure, the FM radio station will undergo a transition and rebranding to selected radio stations of Brigada News FM, which will officially launch on Saturday early morning (July 1st, 2023) - under a new lease agreement with Mabuhay Records Broadcasting Network Inc. (MBNi).

Formerly known as Crossover, Q Radio Philippines (QRP) was a nationwide radio brand under MBNi, which is now expired to operate via an airtime lease agreement with Horizon of the Sun Communications (HSC). This has led to the closure of QRP and the cessation of its nationwide broadcast.

Here in Central Visayas, 2 FM stations are affected by this change, specifically impacting the areas of Bacolod (DYBM-FM 99.1mhz) and Cebu (DYAC-FM 90.7mhz). One of these stations will be permanently taken off-the-air, to be ceasing all of its operations indefinitely. The toughest decision comes as some radio frequencies are subject to change or discontinued based on management decisions within the radio broadcast industry.

At that moment before, there will be facing financial difficulties, including poor ratings like Kantar Media - Central Visayas Chapter and a lack of advertisers' support have contributed to the decision to permanently shut down QRP. The station will cease its operations the said schedule date.

Just recently from last Monday (June 26th, 2023), a contract signing between MBNi and Brigada Mass Media Corporation (BMMC) in Makati City has resulted in the rebranding and legally secured to transition thru Brigada News FM. During a morning radio news programme of "Brigada Balita Nationwide sa Umaga @ 7am", hosted by Glenn Parungao and Gab Dalisay, it was announced that DWEY-FM 104.7mhz will undergo a frequency dial and call sign change to DWBM-FM 105.1mhz. It is unclear if 104.7mhz BNFM: Batangas goes independent or to simulcast from the National Capital Region of Makati City. The station will be legally rebranded as 105.1 Brigada News FM: Manila immediately after QRP's final nationwide radio broadcast.

MBNi is the now former parent company of Q Radio Philippines. It was the primary operator of the Crossover radio brand before its rebranding to Q Radio. The network operated under an airtime lease agreement with HSC. However, following the contract signing between MBNi and BMMC, the management and operations of QRP were gradually transferred to BMMC. This transition marked the end of MBNi's role in the said industry of radio broadcasting.

Despite the closure of QRP, Brigada News FM is set for expansion, offering a broader range of news, information, entertainment, and music. The rebranding will allow BNFM to have a wider reach, specifically in Metro and Mega Manila starting July 1st, 2023. Listeners across the Philippines, including those in Central Visayas, per the likes of Cebu and Bacolod can look forward to tuning into Brigada News FM for their preferred programming for themselves.

India's come a long way since decriminalising homosexuality in 2009. Yep, 2009. Only four years ago. (see, I'm not just pretty, I can count too)

Q Radio, which launched in September and operates from Bangalore, is the country's first station dedicated to an LGBT audience and features mainly discussion-based programming. Operated by Indian radio giant RadioWalla, Q Radio was born after CEO Anil Srivatsa noticed the demand after featuring a segment on homosexuality in a separate show. For a country that legalised homosexuality so recently, this is quite a milestone and a great sign that India is fast advancing in the field of gay rights.
