Home Away from Home Series: the Radisson Blu Hotel Downtown Minneapolis.
It was my absolute pleasure to spend a night at the Radisson Blu hotel in Downtown Minneapolis this past weekend. Located smack in the center of the Minneapolis, this Radisson Blu is a magical little pocket of respite and relaxation in one of the most energetic, lively areas of the Twin Cities. In this post, I'll take you through my stay and some of my favorite surrounding spots below.
First Impressions:
Upon entering the room, I was immediately impressed by the stylish art that adorned the walls and the ultra modern furniture fit for the adventurous traveler. While spacious, there was a cozy ambience that perpetually lingered due to the comfortable resting spots within the room. Complete with a mod lounge chair, a chic work desk, amenity-filled closet, and a massive bed to relax on, the room is practically multi-functional. One of the best things about this room though was the view, which gave an expansive look over the busy streets and Minneapolis skyscrapers.
A Room with a View.
What’s Nearby?
After a couple hours of relaxation, I ventured out for dinner. The hotel is in close proximity to many of Minneapolis’ signature restaurants so if you desire something different from what the in-house Firelake restaurant offers, you have a lot to choose from. Whatever you’re in the mood for, this area’s got. Hungry for a quick breakfast? Hit Cardigan Donuts for some fritters and some cold press. Looking for something fancy and indulgent? Walk a few feet to Fogo De Chao Brazilian Steakhouse. This hotel even connects with the city’s skyway, which offers lighter fare for those who may not be so hungry or are looking to save a few bucks.
On this evening, I found myself at the famous Pizza Luce where I met up with a friend for some gourmet pizza and diet cokes. It was about a ten minute walk there and back, and I loved the Minneapolis charm I spotted along the way.

A little rain, a little coffee.
Afterward, I came back to the room to enjoy the mini complimentary coffee bar while it was pouring rain outside. I’m kind of a coffee aficionado, so believe me when I tell you how amazing this coffee was. It was smooth; it was bold -- it was perfect in both flavor and intensity. While you can order a carafe of it via room service from the comfort of your room, there’s some complimentary sachets of some of it (freshly roasted) for your enjoyment to brew within your room.
While I sipped my cup as the wind + rain blew against the window, I wrapped myself up in the plush comforter and got lost in a book I’d been meaning to read for months. The Radisson Blu Downtown Minneapolis clearly knows how to personally deliver a little piece of quiet and comfort when it’s most needed. That was clear within that moment and also an hour later when I finished off the evening with a relaxing bubble bath in the room’s luxurious bathroom. While I love taking baths in hotels, this place delivered a uniquely special experience: incredible smelling soap, modern fixtures, ample lighting, a bathtub complete with a ledge (for perching wine on while you soak), a rainshower, and stylish glass doors.
Coffee anyone?
A Pleasant Way to Start the Day
The marshmallow-like bed was incredibly comfortable, giving me the best sleep I’ve had ever at a hotel. I’m not exaggerating. The pillows were perfectly fluffed, the comforter was both lightweight and warm, and the mattress was all kinds of soft.
Waking up here was something special. I arose well rested and hungry for a big breakfast, so my final stop before checking out was the in-house restaurant (FireLake), which is where I enjoyed a massive belgian waffle covered in berries and fresh whipped cream, multiple cups of italian roasted coffee, and a freshly baked croissant complimented with a cup of rhubarb jam.
The Firelake’s stylish floor tile (that I just couldn’t resist snapping a picture of!)
Ultimately, this stay was refreshing and rejuvenating, and I recommend the Radisson Blu Minneapolis Downtown to anyone who loves the culture, charm, and overall atmosphere of Minneapolis. This hotel is also ideal for the weary travelers and business professionals looking for the best place to stay while staying in the city.
Thank you to Radisson Blu Minneapolis Downtown for hosting me.
