I liked last season better but this season had some MOMENTS. Oh my god, Dad!Hopper and daughter!eleven was just - oh it was so, so good. And dad!steve? Legendary. And Dustin? Gold. And smart Joyce? Amazing. And Max? Badass. And Bob? Hero.
I agree with literally of this-- there were so many great parts and dynamics and relationships. i think their problem was they didn’t focus on these, and instead tried to do too much and add in relationships that just. weren’t developed yet
Do you have any suggestions for Hugo biographies to read?
Sure!Graham Robb’s Victor Hugo is a very fun read, and easy to find or order.
Matthew Josephson’s Victor Hugo; A Realistic Biography is also very useful and an enjoyable read, but it’s out of print, so you’ll probably need to find it online (I got mine off Amazon.)
They each have their own approaches, but they’re both pretty clear about what they’re doing, and they both have good bibliographies, if you want to read even more!:D
Finally finished season 2 of ST! (Thank you again for getting me into it) Overall, I really, really enjoyed it and a lot of things in it, but one major gripe I had that I'd be curious on your opinion of was the treatment of Max. Mike (and Eleven's) treatment of her never got better - she was right, they treated her like shit, but they never stopped, in my eyes? Never apologized? I kinda wanted her to just dump the group. I was hoping for a "you ARE one of us!" from EVERYONE and never got it.
i really thought that was going to be a big moment. I remember in season 1, the dramatic acceptance of el on lucas’ behalf-- it was sooo touching, and i loved it so much!!! and i kept waiting for that to happen, for everyone (read: mike wheeler) to finally get their shit together and realize how awesome she is. i thought that scene in the gym was going to help mike and max bond, but he never actually started treating her any better. and then when el arrived and treated her like shit because she was jealous??? i hated it. i hate it when girls get mad at each other over boys. i really really wanted there to be a shift in behavior, but there just... wasn’t.
it’s funny how my favorite part of season 1 was the characters apologizing for their mistakes-- i’ve literally written long rants about it on my blog, how important that is and how great it is to treat your characters that way-- and then in season 2, that was the one thing they never ever did. (exception: dustin, when he apologized for keeping dart, and wow funny how dustin was basically my big love from this season)
1005% with you. like, you know those scenes in movies where a person who is obviously dimwitted and untalented but doesn't know it plays their own self produced, bandcamp made obviously horrendously terrible music even to the audience for the talented, musically inclined lead character who grimaces out a smile to try not to be rude? taylor swift's new single sounds like that song
lmaoooooo like it was just. boring, you know??? like usually if something is ambitious i won’t be able to dislike it that much because i can hear the effort and the passion but it just lacked both of those things completely
raeldaza replied to your post “i just got an email saying that my absentee ballot was “undeliverable...”
this is my third time applying for an absentee ballot. the first two, the ballot came AFTER the election. idk if it's general incompetence but, I'm with you, just given the past few years it feels malevolent
I’ve used absentee ballots twice without incident before (under a Democratic administration, of course). I hadn’t expected this and it’s super annoying! I didn’t go through the considerable trouble of buying and registering my car in my home state just so I could end up pressured into registering as a NJ voter anyway!! voting in a swing state is weirdly precious to me and i REALLY WANT TO DO IT
raeldaza replied to your post “raeldaza replied to your post: i’m used to a...”
that's crazy, it sounds like it's right outside my window. how and why
i KNOW and i dont know, maybe they were just feeling particularly sadistic that day in the recording studio or something
raeldaza replied to your post: i’m used to a certain recording of this one song...
vaguely on topic, but I can’t stand when songs have police sirens, cause I usually listen to music when driving and it always gives me a bleeping heart attack/makes me immediately slow down which is NOT GOOD for normal driving conditions
oh man, I don't drive but the handful of times i've been driven by a friend on a roadtrip she's complained to hell and back about sirens in songs. I'm sure its more serious in those conditions.... this song has it integrated SCARILY good tho - https://open.spotify.com/track/3OhVHRijuATWulfVn8Fyc1 <= spotify link, its in the opening seconds; with both earphones in it's JARRING
