a/n: based on a true experience!
You and Rafayel were lounging about your apartment, as per usual. He was draped over the couch, his legs propped up on the arm chair lazily, while you were lying on the floor flipping through the newest Pokemon handbook you impulsively bought the other day.
You swore the book got thicker each year, the developers adding new lines of Pokemon, especially weird looking legendaries, to their inventory of little monsters. You silently flipped through the pages, landing on a page with a friendly, pink Chansey.
"Is the book really that interesting?" You heard Rafayel mumble. You looked up from where you were lying, making eye contact with the exhausted looking fish. While he was looking at you, his fingers were still tapping away at his screen-probably ragebaiting Thomas on Moments.
"Yeah, I don't even remember half of the stuff in here," You replied lightly, yawning and returning to your reading. Rafayel shrugged and continued to doomscroll, leaving you alone to your Pokemon ventures.
You flipped and landed on a page with an interesting looking fish-like Pokemon. The fish resembled a goldfish made out of flames, it's eyes composed of two rounded, crescent shaped jade beads.
You were about to look at another Pokemon when your eyes caught on the fish's name: Chi-Yu.
Your brain took a moment to process the information, then you glanced up at Rafayel who looked like he was about to pass out on your couch.
Rafayel's name was Qi Yu.
He is a fish. (Well, merman, but WHATEVER!!)
This Pokemon is also a fish-
"Rafayel!" You gasped loudly the loud volume of your voice making him drop your phone.
"OW-" He yelped, the phone landing on his face.
You scrambled to his side and swatted his phone away much to his disdain. He glared at you, a pout tugging at his lips.
"What? What is it?" He groaned, rubbing the side of his face. You ignored him and shoved the book in his face, pointing eagerly at the fish Pokemon.
"LOOKOHMGOSHITHASTHESAMENAMEASYOU!!" You spoke rapidly, shaking the book with emphasis.
"What-huh?!" Rafayel rubbed his eyes and looked at the Pokemon handbook. The flaming fish looked up at him.
"This Pokemon has the same name as you!!" You squealed excitedly, still pointing at the name. "You're Qi Yu!"
"Yeah-oh you're right!" He noted the fish, his annoyance instantly disappearing at your excitement. You climbed on top of him, laying atop your fishie and let the handbook fall to the ground with a small thud. "You get excited over the strangest things." He commented playfully.
"You're a Pokemon," You said pointedly, ignoring his teasing comment. "That's so cool....it's literally you..."
You heard Rafayel laugh softly, his hand finding your hair and combing through it gently.
"Mm, who knows, maybe in the future they'll name a Pokemon after you..." Rafayel said thoughtfully.
"Hmmm...yeah, I'd be a pretty cool Pokemon," You muttered, already imagining what type you would be. The two of you laid there peacefully, coming up with ideas about what kind of Pokemon you would be, the hours melting together until the two of you fell asleep.
a/n: This literally happened to me today. I was totally normal about it!!!! Also, did you know that the jade beads are called magatama, or called gogok in Korea? Goguk primarily appeared in the Three Kingdoms Period in Korea! (Silla, Goguryeo, Baekje). They were often found in tombs, and were also used as ornaments that hung from golden crowns in Korea. They kinda represented fruit(?) which in turn represented fertility. It's cool making connections!! Divider by @viviansturns
