Kissing prompt: Raf grabs Nansa’s face and says “please - please” before devouring Nansa’s mouth without waiting for a response.
Raf all but stumbled into the room, bottle dangling from his hand, and searched blearily for his quarry.
There.
Nansa was sitting on the bed, Mella in his lap, laughing with Sethi about something, something, why were they laughing? There was nothing worth laughing at, not now.
Raf took two clumsy steps forward into the room, and the laugher died. “Raf?” Nansa quickly set Mella on the ground and hurried to Raf, catching him before he could trip and fall. “Raf, what’s wrong? You’re drunk?”
The bottle fell to the ground and (thankfully, the tiny sober part of Raf’s mind noted) did not shatter as Raf took Nansa’s face in urgent, graceless hands. “Please--please--” were all the words he could form before he pulled Nansa close and smashed their mouths together, inelegant, desperate, and begging.
Their lips slipped apart a few seconds later, and Nansa wrapped his arms around Raf as Raf started to sob. Nansa looked up at Sethi and whispered, “Sorry,” as she quietly took Mella’s hand.
“Take care of him, she replied as she led her daughter out of the room.
Nansa stroked Raf’s back, gently leading him to the bed as Raf cried and cried. Finally, as sobs began to subside into sniffles, Nansa murmured, “Did you lose someone?”
Nansa didn’t see Raf’s nod so much as feel it against his chest. “Who was it?” he asked, gentle, gentle with his sweet, sad man.
“Rhion,” Raf whispered. “I thought he was rallying yesterday, and then today he just...slipped away.”
“He was called to the next place,” Nansa murmured. “Someone else thought they could use his scouting abilities better than we could while he was lying in the infirmary.” Even as he said it, a pang went through him. Rhion had been in that original squad with him and Han, had been trapped in that cave with Nansa and what was left of them after LaBrun was killed, had looked to Nansa for instructions and stood by him when others challenged. “I’m sorry, Raf. I’m sorry.”
Nansa laid them down, tucking himself around Raf as if to protect him, and whispered, “I love you, Raf,” even as he said a silent, wordless prayer to Falon’Din to find Rhion and take him onward.
