Body Week
So, my college friend/ RA buddy ay-prill made a similar post to this listing 5 things she like about herself. Since body week is this week, she focused on things about her physical self that she liked. I think, as women in an overwhelmingly 'thin' culture, we put so much pressure on ourselves and our body image - it'd be good to do something nice to ourselves for a change. So, I'm going to list 5 things I like about my body.
1. My height - Life is good when you're a tall, I never have to ask anyone to reach something for me - I'm a strong independent woman, and I can get it all by myself. Also, being tall helps give the illusion that you're thinner even when you don't feel like it. The long legs that come with being tall also happen to be a sexy plus (except for when you're pants aren't long enough to cover them).
2. My skin- Why yes, I'm not your average white girl, I am very proud of my native heritage! The way my skin tans up to a nice graham-cracker brown in the sun makes me smile, as I finally feel like my outside matches how I identify inside. Also, I get tons of compliments on my facial complexion, it's even and acne-free and I absolutely love it.
3. My hair- I used to hate my curls, and I still prefer to straighten it, but I have come to respect and love my hair with all of it's quirks. It's been super short and crazy long and all of the colors of the rainbow, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Also, I once cut off 10 inches and the letter that I received informing me of how it was made into a wig for a little girl with cancer touched my heart. Who would have thought that something from your own body could be used to change someones life in such a way.
4. My butt- That's right, this girl has a little extra meat on her bones and few pounds in the trunk. I love my butt, it's big and beautiful and sure knows how to grab someone's attention. And what's even better, I got myself a man who appreciates these curves. ;]
"Because you know I'm all about that bass, 'bout that bass, no treble."
5. My breasts - Yup, I said it. They might not be double-d's, but they aren't mosquito bites neither. As my comical Aunt put's it "more than a mouthful's a waste" anyway! My boobs make me feel sexy and I love to dress up in ways that accent them and put them on display. And someday, if and when I have kids, I will use them to nurture life. What's not to be proud of?
I'm going to tag a few ladies I know to do this for themselves, because as my friend ay-prill put it: "It’s nice to remind yourself of little things that make you fucking fabulous."
