Tony was running a routine check of the names and backgrounds of those brought in to be interviewed within the next week, something he did whenever he had a spare five minutes to oversee the work that his recruitment department were doing. It wasn’t that he didn’t trust them, merely that a good Director always ensured he knew what each department was doing, and kept an eye on their comings and goings. New recruits were particularly important, and if they made it through the initial interview stage, Almeida would be the one vetting them himself. After Nina, he’d taken a vested personal interest in overseeing just which personnel were hired into CTU:LA in his command, and the strict policy hadn’t gone unnoticed. He’d flicked through half a dozen files, matching names for faces, running basic background searches, and making notes on the files if anything in particular needed flagging. It was routine work, and nothing too meaningful caught his eye. That was at least until the seventh file that he lazily flicked open, feet up on his desk, the blinds drawn in his office. He intended on having a relatively easy afternoon of work, but as his eyes caught sight of an overly familiar face, the feet dropped to the floor and Tony sat up. He was suddenly paying a lot more attention. Immediately on the phone, he called down to Rebecca Adams, his head recruiter to check there had been no mistake. There hadn’t. He sent the text without second thought, and sat back in his chair, running a hand through his hair. The thought of him working here hadn’t even crossed his mind. Did Jack know? Because that was a whole other ballpark to deal with if he didn’t.

“Care to explain this?”
Tony spun his laptop around, barely even giving Fin a chance to sit once he’d arrived, tapping his fingers on the screen in front of him. There, lit up like a firework, was Fin’s application to CTU, headshot, paperwork, security check. The whole works.
