“Perfect.” Alia stepped back, clasping her hands together and smiling while admiring her work, which I had no clue how it was going to work. “Now, Mellie, come over here and see!” The bleached lavender dress that she wore flashed in the sunlight as she grabbed my arm, pulling me over to the mirror that stood in the corner of the room. At first, I wasn’t going to look, scared I wouldn't recognize the girl that looked back at me, but stopped as soon I got my first glance at myself. The dress that Alia made for me was stark contrast from her simple lavender dress, with grayish-blue fabric flowing down my legs, and a rich yellow intertwining its way through the dress. Even as I didn’t do anything with my dark brown hair, I looked like the wealthy women that frequented the upper parts of Zarothe.

“Are you sure this is going to work?” I asked, taking a few steps in place to get used to the dress, which somehow felt just like the old dresses I had left behind in Zarothe.

“With a dress like that, you’ll fit in just fine.” Alia moved my hair off my shoulder, laughing softly. “Just, don’t threaten anyone, okay?”

Writing Ramble: Originally, I planned on having RAGT set in a false-Industrial Age. Problem is, past me never decided on WHICH Industrial Age I was going to base it on...

So now the work of RAGT is speeding through like, the first three Industrial Ages all at once, which I guess makes the doomsday cults more believable, at least.

WIP INTRO: THE ROAD AND THE GLOVED THIEF

Genre: Mystery/Fantasy

Setting: Industrial-Era, Zathore

Current Stage: Worldbuilding/Drafting (more drafting after field hockey ends)

WHAT’S IN IT??

uH, dragons?

Two very touch-starved main characters

A badass, half-dragon lady who may or may not be immortal

WHO’S IN IT??

Melandra (Mellie)- a young woman who’s father has disappeared, and is determined to track down the reason why

Caspian- a troubled young man who has been forced to resort to thievery for reasons beyond his control

Alia- Mellie’s long-time friend, who finds herself drawn into her friend’s peril and a mysterious legend which people say she resembles

Jet- Alia’s fiance and another friend of Mellie, who finds danger that no one else can see at every corner

WHEN WILL MORE INFORMATION BE COMING OUT???

This WIP will be more under wraps than my last one, with just snippets and progress updates

WEEKLY UPDATES- After I can really get the ball rolling with drafting, I’m hoping to be posting weekly updates on my progress, with word count, how much I did, and my feelings on it!

Finally, I’ll definitely be trying to feature this WIP using tag and ask games, with possibly some showings of the worldbuilding! No full chapters though!

WIP Progress Report- 12/12/19

So, I know I missed last week, but I wouldn’t have had much to report on, anyway. I still don’t but it’s a little bit more, at least.

Word Count: 4,268

Sprints Done: I did 2 fifteen-minute ones, but not for RAGT

Feeling: Ahhhhhh, I’m having a lot of issues with getting this one going right now, so I think I’m gonna do some plotting for a bit, step aside from the actual writing, and hopefully get some short stories out, since y’all deserve to actually see writing. Especially since, you know, this is a writing blog.

Also... I started a couple of short stories! I’m not exactly sure if I like the one, but it’s gay so I’m sticking with it, and then editing. Hoping to get that one out next week-ish. Sorry for the weirdness going on, though, life’s been a bit wonky, but holiday break is coming!!!

WIP Progress Report- 11/29/19

Hello everyone! For my followers living in the US, I hope y’all had a good Thanksgiving! I did a little less than I wanted this week, mostly because I would sit down, look at my computer, and suddenly it was five hours later, but I’m still happy with the progress so far! Since the holidays are upon us, I might go do some cute short stories for the season, meaning a little less progress will happen on my wip, but I’ll still be writing! And actually posting more, for once.

Word Count: 4,153

Writing Sprints: None this week

Feelings: Couldn’t focus too much, but I DID decide to skip a little bit and begin writing the chaotic nerd himself, Caspian. Basically it’s all just Mellie threatening him, but we still stan the two of them, becoming the crime-fighting duo that they will be one day.

Also... Lesbian Space Pocahontas. And ideas for fluffy winter things. Soon (tm). Maybe some poems.

But, yeah. That’s all for this week, really, since I’ve been barely able to concentrate, but everything’s going! Hoping to have around 1000 words a week, since I always seem to work a bit slower in the winter. Here’s to another week!

👔: Talk about political leaders in your world. Are they elected, chosen, born? What do they do to keep their power and maintain order (or do they)?

In the world of The Ghosts of the Steel Road, there exists all types of governments between the different countries and empires: monarchies, democracies, “republic” dictatorships, etc. But, in many of these places, the real power is held within the business owners, as most countries are scrambling to be the economic powerhouse as the world industrializes, giving these rich owners major leverage over these governments. 

In order for these business owners to keep power, they are engaging in a huge propaganda campaign close to the start of the novel, especially as issues rise in the cities because of the poor managing of sanitary and police forces by local officials connected to the business owners. This leads to the rise of cults and organizations trying to also influence the people, which the business owners see as a threat (for multiple reasons).
