it was so funny watching ragtime on Thursday, a show that is so genuinely politically relevant, and then watching this version of chess which just shoehorns in the most laughably hamfisted political references at any opportunity. There’s literally a bit where Bryce Pinkham is like “ah yes, this this just like RFK Junior and his brainworm”
the loser nerd part of my brain: emma goldman and evelyn nesbit are essentially the respective angel and devil on mother’s younger brother’s shoulder and this is interesting because of how it appears the other way because of goldman’s infamy but how she gets him passionately fighting for a cause whereas evelyn nesbit is nothing but a shallow and failed attempt at love as passion. he wants to find passion and he sees a crime of passion marketed at society and wonders where he can find that passion but finds it in accepting the crimes of society and turning to anarchy.
the cool smart part of my brain: emma goldman and evelyn nesbit are the only people able to influence mother’s younger brother because mothers younger brother is actually secretly a beautiful trans woman
only a woman.
nothing makes me angrier than the fact that Joshua Henry, Brandon Uranowitz and Nicholas Christopher can't all get that Tony because anyone of them would've swept for it last season.
Here's to hoping Cats the Jellicle Ball goes on tour bc that might be the only way I am able to see it other than praying it be extended for two years
that + ragtime proshot
