hey this is mustang-and-miniskirts, original post/blog-ger of the royai fanart. (not the original artist though, so im not gonna take any credit :P) i read your comment on the art, and i just wanted to say, this was a written, but not animated, scene in the actual plot. perhaps that may change your opinion? (although i completely respect what you said about them being equal)

First, like I said, thanks for thinking to reply! In that post I did not mean to pick on that art or story in particular. I am sorry if I came across that way. I actually quite like the work - I wouldn't have re blogged it otherwise!

Also I realize that a lot of the art where Riza is shirtless is a plot reason - her back. I was just trying to point out that this is a very very big trend in Royai art that, when it’s ALL I ever see, can be annoying, because of the reasons I pointed out.

As I said, I do like the art in the post. But I would also like more art less like this exact same thing, and more like this one:

I’m not saying that this art is objectively better than the first, just that I find it more original, and more “equal” if you will.

I guess it comes down to this: I like individual pieces of artwork like that in the first link. What I don’t like is when people have an over-all view of Royai that looks like that. 

A lot of this comes from a bigger issue: I HATE it that so much of the Royai art out there has this screwed up power dynamic in a way that is NOT story relevant - art in which Roy seems to be making Riza uncomfortable, by his physical proximity or whatnot - and art in which Riza looks otherwise helpless and submissive and in need of saving. The whole point of Riza’s back is NOT that she needs saving, it’s that this is HER choice and she will do this one way or another, Roy can, if he chooses, just help her do it more safely.
